The guava fruit is quite a common nutritious fruit mostly found in the tropics. Its tree small making is easy to cultivate in a garden or small farm land since it does not take up lots of space. It has dark leaves that stretches to about 14 centimeters in length. It is able to withstand temperatures as low as about 25 degree celcius irrespective of the fact that is a tropical plant and thus loves the warm of nature. It takes about 2 years for maturation to occur when cultivation. The fruit itself varies in term of shape and may come in the form of round, enlongated or oval. The skin looks tough and may be a little bitter for unripe fruit however that changes when it finally ripens. It also has its seeds embedded together in the middle and can only be obtained after eating the fruit or better still removing the skin and succulent part. Its seed is known to be one of the hardest seeds that is difficult for the digestive tract to breakdown because of which people end up throwing that part after enjoying the fruit itself.
The fruit is filled with lots of nutrients and energy which is very good for our health. It contains carbohydrate and dietary fibre which is good for the digestive tract function. There is also some amount of fat, then protein which is used by the body to repair and maintain tissues and make new ones, then there is numerous amounts of vitamins; vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin B9, Vitamin C and vitamin K. It also contains minerals such as calcium for strong bones and teeth, iron for haemoglobin formation, zinc which plays a role in the immune defense system, and sodium which helps in impulse transmission, just to mention a few.
