Weekend recap! Lots of gardening and a visit to an abbey!

in #family2 years ago

I did had a prolonged weekend. Last Friday I did take a holiday together with the misses. Initially the idea was to make a blossom walk but because we already did this on Tuesday and we did expect 4 big bags of pine bark, the plans were reshuffled.

Friday

So, 4 big bags of pine bark were delivered. That was good for 6.4m³, which is a lot, I can tell you now. The first problem was that the big bags were around 1.8 meter high. So we had to figure out what the best way was to empty them. The first one was pushed over. The idea was that a lot of bark would fell out of the big bag, but that was a disappointment. Gravity did press them firmly together, so only a small amount did come out of it. It was a hassle to get it out of it and into the wheelbarrow. I tried to collect them with a shovel, but that wasn't working to well. Due to the size of the barks, always something was in the way. The second one was also pushed over.
For the third one, we did try a different approach and did cut into the big bag, slicing it a decent distance down. This was easier to fill buckets (this bark was for between the ornamental grass, not easy to maneuver between them with a wheelbarrow).
At the end of the day, 3 big bags were empty. Satisfied but exhausted.

Saturday

The day started early because we had to pick up the oldest son, coming back from his winter holiday. Which did cause a little bit of drama. On the way home from the pickup point, he noticed that he did loose one of his airpods. Never imagined how much drama this would cause. Of course he was tired from the bus ride (15 hours) but still. So we did ride back and it appear that somebody did find them and handed them over to a teacher.
After breakfast it was time for some gardening again. I did start with mowing the lawn again, the fourth time in a week. Irony is that I had mowing the lawn, but do want to make it great again, so I did spread some fertilizer, the idea is that it would get greener, but the side effect is of course that it does start to grow faster.
After that it was a trip to a garden center. The misses did want some new plants and I had the idea to buy a scarifying machine. A small one, was good enough for me.
Back home, I did notice that I did need an extension cord long enough to make life easier. So, another trip to a DIY store. So, finally time to attack the moss and other things in the lawn. This did me take an hour of 2 and did collect 5 wheelbarrows full. I did plan to do this manually, so was very happy with my purchase.
Around that time the misses was finished with the plants, so we could start spreading out some bark again.
Another day added to the history books. I had other things planned also, like fixing the gutter and placing the pumps at the pool again, but happy with the work done.

Sunday

Another early morning, with the youngest son his football game. This was followed by watching the team of the oldest. I normally don't do this, because it does hurt me to see his team playing while he is injured, still after 15 months this hurts. But we had to stay until after this game, because his evaluation was planned. No idea why this was necessary. We only got the message about the level he will be playing on next season and that if he isn't capable of playing some friendly pre-season games, he will have to build up match rhythm with a lower league team, while having the practices with his own team.
Next up was a men's day out with the family for my father's birthday in January. We did visit an abbey, had a guided tour and a beer tasting. After that we went to a restaurant. Overall a busy but pleasant day.

Cheers,
Peter

Sounds like it was a busy weekend! I had to mow my lawn a bit this weekend too. Just the spots where it is really high. Otherwise it will be impossible when I really start mowing it. I think this is the earliest I have ever had to get the mower started in years. I am lucky, we live right around the corner from a landscape supply place. I just take my truck over there and they dump three cubic yards of mulch into the back each year. Then I take it home and shovel it out into a wheel barrow and my wife spreads it around.

Haha I think we are living similar lives with the home improvement, gardening and taxi duty for the kids.

Makes for a very busy life but time well spent all around.

Have a !BEER while doing it and we are pretty much in paradise!

Looks like it. During the weekend I was happy from time to time when I had the taxi duty :)
