FACT OF THE DAY #02.02.18 Young children need to point the finger.

in #fact7 years ago

Although adults tell children that it is not good to show a finger, this is, in fact, almost the only way to draw their attention to anything. Psychologists from Lincoln University suggested that children between the ages of 3 and 10 play a game in which they had to watch the computer bee-character moving around the screen. In addition to the bee, various indicators appeared on the screen: eyes that looked at some place, arrows and index fingers. All of them either showed where the computer bee should have jumped, or, conversely, in the opposite direction. Children were observed with the help of a device that allows tracking eye movements - researchers were interested in which of the pointers would be most effective. It turned out that children from three to five years are best understood by the index finger, but those who are older, are already following the finger with the same attention, behind the arrow, and behind the pointing glance. Probably, the pointing gesture children learn at a very early age from their parents, who show them different interesting things in the world around them, and then there must be time for the child to learn to express his own curiosity in more polite ways.
