Facebook Watch: All you need to know about YouTube rival

in #facebookwatch7 years ago

How can you access this service? How does it work? Can you replace YouTube and Netflix? Facebook introduced on Thursday another service called “Facebook Watch” , a platform for original videos.

Here are few questions that have emerged from the new platform of the social network, and their respective answers.

Can I access the Facebook Watch?

Most likely not. Facebook has said that it will start deploying the platform to “a limited group of people in the United States” and that it will expand to more users “soon”.

How do I know that I have this platform?

As far as we know the Videos tab will be replaced by a new Watch icon. It has the form of a computer monitor with the Play icon in the center.

We have asked Facebook if users will get any kind of notification. We will update this note when we are answered.

I already have Facebook Watch, now what?

If you have already opened the Videos tab in the app, then you are already ahead. When you find a video you want to watch, tap the thumbnail image and the video will start to play by Swipe through the Watch feed.

Besides watching videos, what else can I do?

Facebook Watch has a comment feature so you can talk to those who are watching the same video as you. It is unclear; however, whether the list of comments you see are all comments about the video or just the comments that have been posted when you are watching the video. It is also unclear whether they are comments from your friends or anyone else.

In addition, you can follow the programs to keep up on the new episodes or add the videos to the list of videos that you want to see later.

What is the difference between Facebook Watch and the old Videos tab?

Watch looks and works in a similar way to the old Videos tab. The only difference is that instead of a stream of videos selected from various accounts and Facebook Pages, Watch shows you videos created exclusively by Facebook.

In other words, previously the videos you viewed were published on various social networks. With Watch, the videos you see there, you can only find them there.

Is it essentially YouTube?

More or less. It is more a combination of YouTube and Netflix with exclusive content, in a serial format sometimes, with a social touch.

Will I Watch live?

Yes, Facebook has already announced different shows that are going to be live. Gabby Bernstein, a book writer on the New York Times best-seller list, will use Live to answer fans’ questions, and the MLB baseball league will broadcast one game per week. Also, the MLS football league will broadcast matches in association with Univision, and other media such as The Atlantic, Hearst, Condé Nast and Quartz will have programs. Also NASA.

How much?

For now, it’s free. Well, free in the sense that you will see ads and Facebook will use the data of what you see to better inform you of the ads that can show you. In other words, there is no monthly fee.
