Facebook Co-Founder's Shocking Admission: "It's Time To Break Up Facebook"

in #facebook6 years ago

Charles Hughes believes Facebook is too powerful and the only way to "fix" it is to break it up.

This is a startling revelation since Hughes is one of Facebooks co-founders. He was Zuckerberg's roommate in college.

Hughes sold his stake in the social media giant in 2012 and does not invest in social media companies. His outlook is not tarnished by his own holdings.

He believes Zuckerberg is a decent person yet he was always focused upon dominance. This is something that was achieved. The company owns three of the largest social media applications out there.

People are confused as to what Facebook owns. They do not realize that deleting Facebook in favor of Instagram is the same company.

The Obama administration did not follow through on the put of the company for more privacy. The Trump administration is about to hit the company with a $5 billion fine.

There’s no way it’ll actually happen or help. Best case scenario even if Facebook is split into three companies Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp the same people will likely be running the three.

Great article, but I think Facebook looses slightly influence. The core product "Facebook" - gets old and at least in Germany it is not "hipp" anymore. They have to think about a new platform for the new generations.

As long as there is bias within the company spiting it up just means more potential avenues for censorship. Yes, Facebook has to grow and find new users, but with its company under the microscope of being a platform that censors it seems that needs to be addressed first.

Doubt it. Even if you broke up the conglomerate it will reappear guised as something else. Literally like 7 headed dragon!!!!!!!!

This buy or grow to market dominance is key. @zer0hedge

It only matter of time as corporation get big they become less Innovative and makes the entire industry less Innovative. There needs be a decentralized restructuring of Facebook to work better long term..

Good riddance to those crooks

Thanks for posting this interesting and very relevant news.

You break up Facebook and you still end up with few multi-billion dollar companies. But they each have huge potential to grow too. 😊

How would they break it up? It seems to be the board's decision if they want to break it up. Government can't force them to.

Me I use facebook and steemit only I don't blame anymore because i gain knowledge of two

We've been used😂

This could actually be a great thing for STEEM to fit in and close the gapp , but somehow we're standing still waiting for someone else to take our position...

As I said, I don't trust FB anymore either!
But they are too big and powerful to take down completely, sadly (they deserve it!).
