#DeleteFacebook Will Only Transfer Eyeballs from One Douchebag to Another

in #facebook7 years ago

Facebook has increasingly become a platform for douchebags...I totally get that point. However, do you honestly believe that introducing decentralization into the social media equation will change any of that?

What we are accomplishing with the #DeleteFacebook campaign is merely transferring wealth, power, and prestige from centralized douchebags to decentralized douchebags. But the douchebaggery remains absolutely the same.

Consider the 2nd Law of Douchebaggery, which states that the:

total douchiness can never decrease over time for an isolated system -- in such circumstances, there is no net gain nor loss of douchiness.

In the words of gold and silver guru Mike Maloney...there's no increase in douchiness, just a transfer of douchiness from one community to another.

When the Facebook Douchebag Index hits an all-time bubblicious high, are non-douchebags going to celebrate the coming destruction of douchebags?

No, of course not!

They'll just end up on Steemit!

Sort:

On Steemit you have to at least work to create some value, while douchiness is generally value-less, which means it won't be rewarded on Steemit. At least that's my theory for now.

With absolutely zero sarcasm on my part, and total respect to you, I think you might be conflating what it should be like on Steemit, versus the actual reality.

I'm thinking about doing a separate post, but on the "Trending" page today, we have front and center a post from user y@ll@p@pi. To put it nicely, the guy's a real fucking douchebag -- he once made a statement on a Steemit post that he loves having money because he can essentially replace or uproot any negative circumstance, including his own family members!

He's shockingly shallow, conceited, and vapid, yet his posts make hundreds of dollars a pop -- saying much, but saying absolutely nothing. Fortunately, we have ballsy whales like @nonameslefttouse that directly called him an asshole.

Check it out, if you want. In fact, I think you'll find more douchey posts making money than actual good content, which is why Steemit probably won't gain much traction from this #deletefacebook nonsense.

In steemit, members can at least earn something daily (no matter how small) and or have hope of paying their future bills from revenue earned online . However this is not the case with Facebook because they will never share revenue with their members rather , rather they sell members data`s for more profits (even to foreign entities for political purposes and fake news).

A different topic from what I discussed in my post, but since you have upvoted and taken the time to comment, I will respond. I agree that the monetary system technically works on Steemit, and that you do have hope to gain something. However, if you want to truly have a realistic shot, you MUST invest in your posts or Steemit account.

In that regard, it's no different than Facebook, or any other social media platform. Sure, you don't make money on Facebook for your posts, but you do have the opportunity to gain valuable traffic on FB; and that in and of itself is worth major bucks because you have a real shot at attracting major advertisers, or clients to your business.

You do have a point there. But the biggest plus for me is that I need not be worried about spooky apps spying on me.

people will be people, I don't mind. But the real douche bag is Mark Zuckerberg. #DeleteFacebook, The quicker it is gone the better.
