The game Steem Monsters will be rebranded to Splinterlands soon
The monster rental market went online yesterday!
And just like automated tournament made tournaments 10x better so does the rental market make renting cards 10x better.
It's just so much easier to just press a 'rent' button and activate a contract than going into discord and trying to find someone willing to rent you the cards that you need.
I went there today (www.peakmonsters) and rented 3 MAXED legendary summoners for a week for $8.
I don't own those MAXED cards myself and always wanted to try them out but they go for more than $200 on the market so it's not something you just 'buy' to try out.
But for $8 I can now find out what I have been missing!
And I can also use these cards in the big tournaments over the weekend.
The rental market was NOT built by the team behind Splinterlands by the way.
It was built by the guys behind @steempeak. They saw an opportunity and took it.
Which showcases time and time again what this blockchain is.
The blockchain of opportunity.
It's everywhere.
When Splinterlands gets big, the rental market will explode and with a 5% fee on rentals for them, they are sitting on a cool business model.

Isn't a max legendary summoner like +200$?
So three of them is over 600$ worth of cards.
8$ per week lease is actually a good deal for the renter.
Or am I wrong?
It is a good deal. But the rental market did just come out, meaning the price will adjust in the future. Maybe I paid to much, but I was happy with it.
Also, when you rent these great cards your tournament chances increase as well. One good result in a tournament can pay for the whole renting price.
I transferred 8 Steem to Peakmonsters, thinking (hoping) it would be enough to rent me one maxed legendary summoner for a few days, but 4 out of 5 of them only have one level 4 available for $3-4 per day with a 7 day minimum rental. Crypt Mancer is my only option and it's not playable for 4 days. Guess I'm going to have to wait until the price adjusts.
I think the price you got them for was pretty good. Especially when paying in Steem !
I doubt I'll climb high enough to face you in battle but if I do I hope it is in a low mana match or lost legendaries ;-)

I've played card trading games before. When asked the developers were always hesitant to allow trading. It seemed like another hackable avenue.
However, with blockchain, it seems that the problem is solved. Actually, I can't see many successful card games starting up without a blockchain in the future to avoid scams and fakes, etc.

I think that is a pretty good deal if it is a max legendary summoner cos that card could be a make or break to win the big tournaments.
That is awesome. Have you noticed if any non maxed cards have been renting out at all? I have no maxed cards, so I am afraid that I am not going to be able to take advantage of this cool new feature. Maybe someone would rent them for the lower tournaments, but then there is going to be a lot more competition...

I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. I logged into peakmonsters, but I just can't figure out where to go to lease out some of my cards...

Great to know that! I have a stuck of Alpha cards that I do not use since I am not much of a gamer so I will sure put them to work through rentals.

I must have missed that cards are able to be rented out now. That's actually pretty neat. It will definitely be a useful tool in testing out new cards and deck strategies as they come.

I got on there last night and started to list some Beta cards I am not using for rent. I even put up my Legendary Gold Foil to see how the market looks at this early!
