Betting on the Economy

I bought 5 shares of SPY at the buy of $450.01 and my current position is down -17.67%. That is a total of $-397.70. I bought this position back in April 2022 and thought to myself to buy the position and hold it for a "rainy" day. From the 5 year daily chart the stock pivots along the EMA200 (Exponential Moving Average 200). This means the moving average places more significance on the most recent 200 price changes of the SPY. As you can see from the chart the price of the stock does not divert too far from the EMA200 and because the volume has been consistent for the past 5 years I decided this ETF to be a safe position and invested $2250.05 to liquidate when needed for a "rainy" day.

The day is here and it is pouring. I am currently on a no-pay family leave and I've only saved 1 and 1/2 months of total bills- a little less then $5,000, not thinking I would need more of a cushion. So while I'm here in the "gray" for the moment I am so thankful that I stashed a little money into the SPY because should I need my position I can sell it and have the cash in my checking account within three days of my liquidation.

As you can see from my position, I don't have a lot of money into the position and I don't have a lot of available cash to withdrawal less than $200, yet I have over $4,000 available for stock trading. The $4000 is leverage supplied by TDAmeriTrade. I received leverage because I have a margin account.

In theory, I could earn a few hundred dollars a week to also help with paying smaller bills while I am on leave, but the most prevalent information I want to share with you all is - whether you have a few hundred or a few thousand dollars - putting your money into a margin account will give you more opportunity when shit hits the fan.

Single mothers: Yes!! You can absolutely bet on the economy, leverage and liquidate in your favor. You just have to participate. Start by asking questions, and reading real life examples, examples that are relatable to your life.
