Of all the Beta starters, the Rebel Agent is the one which had the most hype. This was a special starter available to veteran Exode players, myself included, which has long since left the market.
I meant to write an article about this deck a year ago, but life has been much more hectic than expected.
A new member in the Exode discord has been asking questions about it, so I'm going to apologize for the delay (and likely poor quality of this post) and rush out an article on it.

For those of you who’ve read my previous Exode posts, feel free to skip the next paragraph. For those who aren’t familiar with Exode, here is a quick summary of the game:
Exode is a blockchain based space colonization game currently being developed. Considering it's a one man team, progress is going fairly fast. There is a playable alpha of the first phase, Evacuation, a short scanning scene where you can learn about your eventual planet, and colonization gameplay on the horizon. All you need to play is a single starter deck, though having more cards obviously gives more options. This is also a game first, currently the only way to earn is through reselling cards. You will be able to play to earn in the future, but the gameplay will ALWAYS come first and the design is fairly resistant to abuse. Along those lines, anything gained from a referral bonus is account bound. There is no financial benefit to spam referrals, but plenty of game benefits as you get account bound boosters and an elite officer for free. With that out of the way, lets begin the review!
The Rebel Agent starter, focuses on Rebel, Stealth, Toughness. Ideally you will be leading a small army of rebels from the Alpha and Beta sets in a thriving colony which remains well hidden from the Alien threat.
As you can see from the skill list, they are stealthy, good at combat, have the ability to explore planets, and has specialists for other important roles.
ORIGIN
As I've said before, the heart of every deck is the origin card. Unsurprisingly, the Rebel Agent gives a boost to Rebels and Stealth. It also helps with Toughness. I expect the Rebels will be very strong colonizers who are able to escape when the going gets tough, but we'll have to see (and we'll certainly need to properly equip them with weapons!)
SHIP
The Narazu Stealth Corvette is well suited for several origins, Rebel, Military, and Criminal. Its armed and has cloaking. It can hold two equipment cards (the starter comes with one), four crew (the starter has three) and three passengers. Its main drawback is that it can only carry four cargo. Its tied or least cargo space with the Baldie and Claymore, so it may be a rough start when you land.
OFFICERS
This starter comes with three Rebel officers. There are a handful of Alpha collection officers you might consider swapping in, but these three are fairly well rounded.
- Ground Operative: Muscle and Planetary Exploration. He should help you get settled into your new home.
- Rebel Comms Officer: This officer will help you get to, and explore, the planet safely. They should help you get a quick start to make up for your reduced supplies.
- Rebel Operations Planner: This is your leader on the ground. They'll help you make the most of your limited resources.
CREW
Your crew members are obviously ready to get their hands dirty. With the proper orders *cough* Ops Planner *cough* they will get most jobs run, regardless of the risks. You definitely will want to spend some points on their skills before Evac though!
- Daring Spy Trainee: This is one tough cookie. Brave, stealthy and tough. Give her a job and watch her get it done.
- Rebel Fighter: More muscle to get the grunt work done.
- Rebel Young Recruit: This is the one who will probably help you repair your hyperdrive. This character is the brains of the crew, as opposed to the others who are clearly the brawn.
EQUIPMENT
For rebels, knowledge is power. They come with intelligence equipment to help with their hardware needs. We don't know enough about Colonization at this time to know exactly how much this will help.
FINAL THOUGHTS
For the other starter decks I would include my thoughts, some deck improvements and my initial Evac experience. But, as I've said, this article is rushed and a year over due! I'll include that in a follow up article in the future, hopefully before the month's end but no promises!
As always, thanks for taking the time to read this! Sorry its on the rough side.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Great job!
(No one but you would know it was done in a rush.)
Nice, pretty good for a rush job :)
Great job!
And many apologies for not having dropped comments on previous articles, I really love what you did here.
This is EXACTLY what all players will need.
It also comforts me to have great community work and writeup like yours to explain the game, as understanding EXODE is the main need new players have and it's always a tough nut to crack.
Thanks again @veryanprime !
Thanks for the kind words!
I know how busy working on the game keeps you, so no need to apologize!

I wonder who that was...
