Exchange Transfer Report: 2/18/2018 to 2/24/2018

in #exchangereport7 years ago

exchange_transfer_report_header.png

New exchanges added: upbit and gopax!

USD values are calculated per day via API feeds from Poloniex (for STEEM and SBD values in BTC) and Coindesk (for USD value of BTC). For the top 50 reports in USD terms, I take the average USD value for STEEM and SBD for the week using the daily average which came out to:

  • STEEM: $3.54978
  • SBD: $4.03455

Previous Report:

  • STEEM: $3.96297
  • SBD: $4.80531

Assumptions

Please see the first report for a detailed explanation of my personal assumptions related to what this data could mean (along with commentary on previous reports). What it does not show is people powering up, powering down, or if they are buying or selling on an exchange. It's just some interesting data dealing with transfers to and from exchange accounts.

Linked Accounts

hitbtc includes hitbtc-exchange and hitbtc-payout, freewallet.org includes freewallet, openledger includes openledger-dex, binance includes binance-hot and deepcrypto8, upbit includes upbit-exchange and myupbit, and gopax includes gopax and gopax-deposit.

Withdrawal to Deposit Ratio by User Count over Time

Commentary

  • The withdrawal ratio came back down to 2.40 to 1. Maybe more deposits on upbit helped?

  • I updated the report to sort the exchanges by total USD amount so the top of the list shows the most money going to an exchange (i.e. someone is withdrawing money from their STEEM account and sending it to an exchange) and the bottom of the list shows the most money coming off an exchange and being deposited into an account. It's a little confusing though since many of the exchanges seem to be transferring funds between themselves as well.

  • The top of the deposit list belongs to @neworleans who seems to be supporting a lot of steem delegation and bot services.

Hi @lukestokes thanks for bringing this great report again. Always great to see the numbers that helps us think what they mean. I believe many more people are selling a bit of bitcoin or other cryptocurrency and coming to the platform to invest in SP, and then delegate to bots and services..

By the way, I wanted to let you know I made a post about you, why I voted for you as Witness and to give you huge thanks for your Steem Power Delegation to @steem-ambassador , because I truly believe that what you always do if think on the long term growth of the entire steem ecosystem, so if you chose the promo-steem project is because you find a lot of value in it.

Here is the post I made:

Looking forward to your feedback!

Regards, @gold84

Thanks so much for the shout out! I left a reply and resteemed. Glad to give @steem-ambassador some more attention.

Huge thanks to you @lukestokes for all the support you are giving and actions you are taking to help the entire Steem ecosystem grow in the long term. Many will continue following your example.

let us all take steemit to great height

great info @lukestokes ... Im considering selling my sbd since the price seems to keep decreasing and its original value is supossed to be 1usd... whats your take on this? Do you expect any price rise?

I never expect the price of SBD to rise, and I'm always confused when it does. I sell as soon as I get it as I prefer STEEM. That's where the long-term value is.

That should be true, @lukestokes. But how can you explain the recent prices of SBD? If we do not understand the reason for the price rise, we might take a wrong and costly decision here.

It's pure speculation, like many other cryptocurrency coins. From one perspective, SBD is a far better currency than Bitcoin:

  • Free transactions
  • 3 second confirmation times
  • Fewer total coins in circulation (as of right now, in the future that will probably change, which counts again SBD since Bitcoin has a hard cap)
  • Easier wallet addresses as names instead of complicated strings of characters
  • Built-in social media aspect to the token which gives it some utility value beyond a normal cryptocurrency
  • It will never be worth less than $1 USD worth of STEEM. Even BTC doesn't have a guarantee like this.

etc, etc, etc. I could go on and on.

Ultimately, value is determined in the moment of transaction by those who choose to participate. To me, there's little sense in having two speculative tokens in the core of the STEEM blockchain. If people want to speculate, buy STEEM. I see throwing away an opportunity to have a stable pegged currency as a costly long-term decision, but I'm also not willing to destroy the great rewards the community is enjoying right now.

Thank you, @lukestokes for the detailed answer.

but I'm also not willing to destroy the great rewards the community is enjoying right now.

I believe that the high price of SBD helped give Steem a lot of attention.

Long-term is key. :) Best wishes to you. - @splendorhub

Very good picture and your story

Wow all of this information is incredible, true transparency! The $ amounts are just crazy! Thanks for sharing this. @journeyfreedom

Considering the volatility of SBD and Steem power, SBD has a great fluctuating power. It can go high up or it can go less that 3 or even less and Steem power is a little less fluctuating. So tell what is the best option here ?

I always sell SBD for STEEM. I prefer STEEM, where the real long-term value is.

Thank you sir. I will do the same.

@lukestokes thanks for sharing... its always good to have more options.

hopefully steemit more successful

Thank you again @lukestokes for always serving as eye of the community in monitoring the in and out movements of funds. This goes a long way to inform us as to the health status of the platform. From what you have here, I can deduce the platform ain't performing bad.

using poloniex as basis in usd/steem pair is not good since steem/sbd is not going to deposit nor withdraw, so it does not matter in real world, bittrex maybe is more reliable since you can make steem/sbd in or out

Yeah, it does trend a bit lower than the other exchanges, but I haven't gotten around to updating the code to pull from somewhere else yet. Since all of these reports have been using the same source, they at least all relate to themselves, even if the numbers are a bit lower than the overall markets. I'll take a look next week and consider updating the code to pull from coinmarketcap instead.

Thanks as always for sharing this @lukestokes, really interesting to see everything happening with STEEM and SBD. Do you take this info directly from the blockchain?

I was thinking of starting doing a daily post with some sort of data, but was not sure what to do. Considering I work full time in ICO consulting, so I decided that I will try to post about at least a few ICOs today (only ones that I'm not working on due to confidentiality). Seeing your posts inspired me to do this, as they got me thinking of what posts I could do that would be evergreen!

Thanks again for sharing this, I'd love to talk more about my upcoming Steemit project if you get the chance.

Yeah, I wrote some PHP a while back to pull data from the API.

A daily report might be a bit much. I've settled into doing one weekly report (exchange transfers) and one monthly report (witness voting engagement). A regular report on the ICO space could be really helpful though. Definitely let me know when you start putting that out there.

Ah I see! I like using PHP for pulling data, although I've been looking in to VBA to scrape and format at the same time, I'm not sure if it has many limitations though.

Yeah you're right actually, I imagine it's easier to fit it all in to one post. Okay cool, I'm going to be writing the introductory post for the ICO report tomorrow so I'll be starting then. Cheers!

Hey @lukestokes, I'm just letting you know that the first ICO overview is live. I would love your feedback on it, I'm always looking to improve my work!

Thanks! I enjoyed checking it out.

Thanks! I'm planning to do two or three per week, with another coming tomorrow. I'm also going to start focusing on token economics a bit!

I heard you love Costa Rica. There is a small Costa Rican community growing up. I'm trying to help minnows with my @tuanis project check it out!
