We only briefly touched on these in the last post, so decided to write a new post dedicated to getting into more detail on Quests, Achievements & Interspace.

MetaGame.wtf

A few days following the closing of our (massively successful) Gitcoin campaign, Hammad went ahead and deployed us the first version of the website - MetaGame.wtf

He imbued it with the sweet Synthwave 80s aesthetic, which will almost certainly be the theme for the first version of MetaGame, with all of it’s pixel art niceties.

It’s nothing fancy (yet) except maybe for that animation he dropped in the middle, but it’s all we need for now. It explains MetaGame in one short sentence, and directs people to either Play (by joining us on Discord) or Learn (by reading the 8 pillar articles for understanding MetaGame).

Quests

The idea of Quests in MetaGame has been around since Day 1, of course - what kind of a role-playing-game doesn’t have quests. We started experimenting with the first implementations of Quests a while ago, but something was missing…

In the time since the Gitcoin campaign, the number of people in our Discord has almost tripled and a lot of them came in with either of these two questions;

  • What the hell is this?
  • How do I start playing?

It became apparent we should make it a Quest…

Results:

  • 12 people completed the Quest in the first 2 days, without any announcement.
  • Them sharing & retweeting created an influx of new members
  • A few days ago, the ranked Founding list of MetaGame was still 6 people short of being full. By now, it is 5 people over-subscribed.

Stay tuned for Quest #2!

Note: This is far from being the only way of becoming one of us. We want MetaGame to be a choose-your-own-adventure game, and this is but the simplest way.

Achievements

Achievements are another must have in RPGs. We started experimenting with these by minting achievement NFTs for members of the MetaCartel and the wider Ethereum community.

We finally nailed this idea into the form of the ChievMint Factory. As the introductory tweet-storm explains, ChievMint Factory is a MetaGame service formed to mint achievements for the players of MetaGame, the MetaCartel & the wider Ethereum ecosystem.

The ChievMint Factory will be ran as a DAO and used to signal appreciation & give bragging rights to contributors. Eventually:

  • Scaled into a ChievMint Network, where other organizations could join & start minting achievements for their contributors.
  • Achievements reforged into 3D in-game items or other collectible artwork.

These achievements will serve as a social proof of us doing things that are noteworthy. In combination with profiles, we aim at replacing your portfolio page & sending CVs for job interview - at least inside the MetaGame ecosystem.

Note: If you’re among the top 56, you’re qualified to receive a Q1 2020 Founder or Founder achievement NFT.

Interspace

Recently deployed for MetaGame, you can think of Interspace as the proof of concept of what MetaGame will be like - but you may also think of it as a full conferencing tool. It hosts multiple rooms of which each can be used for discussing different topics…

On top of being able to run multiple calls in parallel, there’s the extra perk of the call not ending when the organizer has to leave - as opposed to eg. Zoom - as it’s hosted in the cloud, not by the organizer.

From now on, this is where we’ll be hosting our bi-weekly calls.
What else? An virtual unconference.

For the unfamiliar; an unconference is a type of conference where instead of having the tracts on stages where a single person speaks - the crowd is split according to interest groups which then organize discussions in circles. In short, it’s a more decentralized & participative kind of conference, suitable for this space.

More

As mentioned in the last post, we’ve also recorded the first episode for the yet-unnamed podcast to be featured on MetaGame’s podcast network - MetaRadio.

We’ll be recording the next few episodes at ETHDenver and will follow-up with a full blog post announcing and explaining all of that, in near future.

Until then,
drop by our Discord, say hi and complete the first quest?

In Denver? Contact one of our people on the ground there, and get involved.
Jump on Discord and post in the dedicated channel or DM Yalor or Hammad.
