There is an argument that Ethereum market cap will surpass the bitcoin market cap of which is a great thing for Ethereum investors but what will happen to other altcoins if the price of any coin exceeds bitcoin as the base currency? With Eth's bloated blockchain, can one see Eth going above BTC or will Eth's bloated blockchain be its downfall

I think its quite likely that Eth will surpass the Bitcoin, but except from short hysteria there will be no consequences.
The question is will Bitcoin be No1 in the next 10 years i don't think so while its the master now. people are trying to find the next best thing,
The effect will be societies beginning to think about what currency means to them.
It seems that every altcoin has its difficulties to scaling up, mostly the solution is POS.But it is hard to control the speed of the inflation in POS, so lastly a new altcoin will come to the market for alleviating the problem. It is just a vicious cycle....
