In two hours and thirty-seven minutes, you have held an infinite amount of drama, emotions, intra-communal conflict, love, and lost love in the palm of your hand.
Robert Downey's Tony Stark, along with himself, snapped Thanos out of existence in Endgame, and then half the Earth's population came back to life and witnessed all this drama (probably with a tub of popcorn in their superheroic hands). Celestials (powerful cosmic beings, the first of the universe) sent a group of demigods to this planet to protect it at all costs. Sersi (Gemma Chan) is fighting a Deviant in the present. Deviants were thought to have been wiped-off years ago but they have come back. Sersi does the most amazing thing by doing a family reunion with other Eternals who have different backgrounds.
The most intimidating of all of them is Sersi's 'long-lost' (thousands of years) cheater ex-boyfriend Ikaris (Richard Madden), who also possesses a laser beam similar to that of Cyclops. We’ve Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), who is currently a Bollywood star, In addition to being Marvel's first openly gay superhero, Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) is the team's tech expert, but instead of using his eyes to project cosmic energy, he uses his hands.As Flash's alternate Eternals, Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) can't talk, making her this movie's second Marvel's first (deaf superhero), Druig (Barry Keoghan) is able to read people's minds, Gilgamesh (Don Lee) is a strong-smacker, and Thena (Angelina Jolie), the Goddess of War, is in a constant battle with her inner-demons.
Their leader is Ajak (Salma Hayek), the only one who can speak with Arishem (the judge of all). There are things the Eternals are doing that go against Arishem's predetermined plan to eliminate Earth. Those ten stories come together to tell a story spanning over 7000 years in two hours and thirty minutes.

"And Eternity in an hour..." That is exactly what you get with Eternals, an infinite amount of drama, emotions, intracommunal conflict, love, lost love, and eternity in two hours and thirty-seven minutes. In conjunction with her fellow screenwriters Patrick Burleigh, Ryan Firpo, and Kaz Firpo, Zhao has produced the least spectacular Marvel movie ever.
As I entered the cinema hall, I wore a Justice League tee just for fun, having read several negative reviews of Eternals that made me wonder if this would be a weak film. Zhao's magic has already grabbed my attention and I have nearly ironed my Marvel tee to witness it as a fan and not as a critic. Having said that, I understand why my fellow critics have attacked it, as Eternals not only shatters Marvel's template but also people's expectations.
While the outline of Eternals is similar to "assembling a team of superheroes to save the planet from otherworldly beings", it is more about an internal fight than an attempt to eliminate a monster with Purple heads. Thena's internal struggle to believe and remember she's loved is also shown through Ikaris' relationship with Icarus (the boy who flew too close to the sun) and Zhao's emphasis on Sersi's affinity for humans. In addition, there is Marvel's first gay superhero who is a family man who doesn't want to go back to fighting deviants, and a deaf superhero adding to the emotional drama. I know I'm repeating myself, but this was all done in around 150 minutes.
As Chloe Zhao's love for deserted lands meets Ben Davis' cinematography, you breathe in the flying grain of sand as these demigods struggle among themselves to decide the fate of the earth.
Review of The Eternals: Star Performance
In contrast to Game Of Thrones' Cersei, Gemma Chan brings Sersi the required subtlety, while displaying her empathy for humans through her innocence. Richard Madden has worn a costume before participating in epic battles, and that helps him become comfortable inside the skin of Ikaris. See more
