UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: HOW TO TEACH NAUGHTY KIDS

in #esteem6 years ago (edited)

Unconditional love is a way of upbringing and teaching that was proposed by Shalva Alexandrovich Amonashvili - a Georgian teacher and psychologist, who defended his thesis on pedagogy and became one of the most famous and successful teachers.

He is a developer of the original concept of humane pedagogy.
Humane pedagogy is focused on the personality of the child, absolute rejection of authoritarian, imperative (imperative, mandative) pedagogy.

According to his famous and legendary conception:

Laws of the teacher: to love the child, to understand the child, to be filled with optimism for the child.
Principles: humanizing the environment around the child, respect and paience to the child's personality
Commandments: to believe in the infinity of the childs abilities!

But what is this very principle of Unconditional love?

There's a story that can be a bright example of it.

Once Shalva Alexandrovich had a lecture with many teachers. He taught them and gave them many priceless recommendations.

In the end he wanted to check if they had got his main idea, and he asked:

    • Please, tell me, what will you do if a pupil is a late for your lesson?*

Teachers gave different variants but all of them were connected with some kind of punishment or remarks: to make a note in his diary, to inform parents about this case, to give him extra tasks as a punishment etc.

Amonashvili replied:

    • I see... and if I were you, I would say: "Good day, my boy(girl)! Come in! How are you today? We are waiting for you, and we couldn't start our lesson without you. Sit down, please, and we'll start together"*.

Teachers were surprised... But ok, maybe for the first time it was really enough.

Amonashvili continued:

- And what would you do if he was late the next day again?

Teachers replied in the same manner as before. It was the second day when the pupil was late, so he had to be punished!

But Amonashvili replied:

    • Ok... But I would say: "Good day, my boy(girl)! Come in! Finally you've come! We are waiting for you, and we couldn't start our lesson without you.*"

Teachers were shocked!

And the great Shalva Alexandrovich explained that this way can change almost all naughty kids! If teachers change this manner of behaviour, the pupils will be never late again.

The unconditional love predetermines the behavior and attitude of the child to the world and people.

The child reacts only to the pure impulse of love, and if he feels he is loved, he is needed, he is important, and he is being waited, he will have no wish to be late, he will want to give gratitude and love in reply.

Kids come to this world like pure angels. They don't have anger, envy or hypocrisy. They can appear later, if they meet them in the world and in the people around him.

Kids are mirrors.
if they see love and kindness, they will transfer them to the world back!

Friends, do you think it's right?
Or kids must be upbrought in strict rules, and this theory of Unconditional love can make them uncontrolled?
