Not a stupid question at all. You have the ability to use 100% (weight) of your voting power per upvote. If you have over 500 SP on steemit, they automatically give you a sliding bar on your upvote tab to set what % (weight) of your voting power you want to use. However, if you use, esteem you can preset your percentage you want to use beforehand, no matter how much SP you have. The less % you use, the more votes you can have, but they will have proportionally less $ to be given. Does this make sense?
It is gonna take ages for me to get to 500SP. I was so much more engaged in the site 2 days ago. I wish they could of changed this for minnows with the hard fork, today has been so slow and my voting power I feel is never coming back. I just use the PC so if people were gonna tell me about the app being able to change it... well I know but that doesn't help me. If you can do it on the phone app and be a minnow I think they should make the PC vote weight change available too for all minnows.
If ages, is a few weeks, to months if you start from zero and post often then yes, it could take you ages. It's out there, you just have to find a way to get it! Make it yours!
