Caterpillar Banana Leaf Roller

Attack Symptoms

The leaves are attacked caterpillars are usually rolled up, so it resembles a tube and when opened will be found in the caterpillar. The young caterpillar cuts the edges of the leaves tilted, then rolled to form a small tube. Inside the scroll the caterpillar will eat the leaves.
If the leaf in the roll is exhausted, the caterpillar will move to another place and make a larger roll. In case of severe attack, the leaves can be exhausted and live leaves leaf full of leaf rolls.

Morphology / Bioecology

Butterflies suck honey banana flowers and do copulation while flying in the afternoon and early morning and lay eggs at night.
Eggs are placed in groups as ± 25 grains on banana leaves are still intact.
The young caterpillar is slightly greenish, the body is not covered with wax. While the larger caterpillar is yellowish white and the body is coated with candles.
Pupa is in a leaf coil, greenish and coated with candles. The length of pupa is approximately 6 cm and has proboscis. The life cycle in Bogor ranges from 5 to 6 weeks.

Mechanical way

Utilization of egg parasitoid (wasps of Oencyrtus erionotae Ferr), young larval parasitoids (Cotesia (Apanteles) erionotae Wkl), and parasitoid pupa (Xanthopimpla gampsara crack). Other parasites: Agiommatus spp., Anastatus sp. Brachymeria sp., And Pediobius erionatae.
