Good morning everyone from this part of the world, today I woke up with this thought most of the youths are carrying all about as far as education is concern, thinking education is just a waste of time in out present generation and they see no reason why they should waste their precious time on it.
Going back to what one of the African soldier and a leader says about education, in person of Nelson Mandela, he says education is the only weapon that will have that we can use to change our environment. Now the kind of change he was talking about here is not the change our society is experiencing today, it is the positive type of change.
It is quite right anyway that education doesn't teach us how to make money despite the fact that our major view about it is to graduate and secure a sustainable job that will take care of us and our family at large. Education in our society today is more of knowledge acquisition rather than application and until we change that, then the system will have nothing to offer us except for the certificate. Many of our graduates today and not functionally literate.
Functionally literate in the sense that, many of them don't later practice what they went to school to study for good 4-5 years and that is why we have lots of barrister lawyer, political scientist and many more in our movie industry today because that seems to be the easiest way to make it.
Coming back to the talking point which is "is education truly a scam", to me, education is not a scam and has done lots of good rather than bad to our system. Even when you look at the movie industry which I just used as an example, you will truly agreed with me that education has changed so many thing in the industry. Your level of education and exposure will determine the kind of movie you will appear in today because gone are those days when we used to have all these village and incantation movie.
Education is not a scam, the only problem that surround it today and that is making lots of the youths to think it is a scam is the way the curriculum was implemented, we need to go back and restructure the curriculum and tailored it in a way that it will be able to cater for our needs and aspirations and not the one that will provide us with millions of graduates without a job.
With love,
