Johann Zarco - MotoGP
Johann Zarco will start in pole position for the French Grand Prix MotoGP race at Le Mans after setting the fastest record on Saturday and MotoGP champion Marc Marquez is second.
Tech3 Yamaha rider made a sensational lap with one minute 31.185 seconds, the fastest time ever made MotoGP rider at the Bugatti circuit, with defending champion Honda Marquez 0.108 slower, reports Reuters.
While Italian rider Danilo Petrucci will also start in the front row for the Pramac Ducati team.
Marquez and Zarco, Moto2 champions twice and in 2017 became rookie MotoGP, became the first and second riders in the championship after four rounds with the Spaniard still ahead 12 points.
The pole position this time is the second for Zarco this season after the opening session in Qatar, and fourth in the top category.
He also became the first French rider to have pole position in the home asphalt race arena since Christian Sarron at Le Castellet in 1988, and he did so with the French team.
"It feels great and it's very emotional for me I do not expect to have these emotions during qualifying here," Zarco said. "To be sure I want to be fast, but when I see 31.185 on the dash I surprised myself."
Ducati manufacturer with rider Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo fifth and sixth place with Andrea Iannone of Italy in fourth position with Suzuki. Italian rider Valentino Rossi will start in ninth position.
British rider Cal Crutchlow, the champion in Argentina last month, suffered a major accident and was taken to the hospital for an examination. The LCR Honda rider will start starting in 13th if it is feasible to compete.
