HerstoryOurstory: Women rights are human rights.

On the 25th of November, 2018. A campaign against gender-based violence started and I'm writing this pledge my support in my own little way. Gender based violence is very common is Nigeria and needs to be ended. Violence against women could be physical, sexual, psychological, emotional and socio-economical.

No MORE why didn't she fight back women are often blamed after rape and sexual abuse, we forget that NO means NO. A woman's dressing doesn't mean she want it, visiting a man or sleeping over at his places doesn't mean she want it, having a previous history of sexual intercourse doesn't mean she want it, being drunk doesn't mean she want it. Unless it is consensual it is rape.

I've heard people say girls cause the rape by dressing provocatively. Little girls get raped too, infant babies fall victims too. Did they ask for it? The rapists are the problem, their mindset is and not the victims.

NO MORE why didn't he tell anyone men also fall victims of rape too, young boys also get sexually abused and can't speak up too because no one cares about them. They say guys are always sexually ready so if it's a man then it's not rape. Rape has the same effect on men as it does on women.

HEAR ME TOO harmful practices such as female genital mutilation should not be practiced It is a form of gender inequality of what a girl should be like and controlling her sexual behaviour. No religion endorsed this practice and it can only be harmful to the girl child.

HEAR HER VOICE child marriages should be stopped. #GIRLSNOTBRIDES the girl child should be in school, studying for a better tomorrow and are not meant to be given in marriage. Do not make the girl child a child mother. This is not only an emotional and psychological form of abuse but a very big risk to the girl as she may die or develop serious health issues duromh childbirth.

STOP this violence a woman is a partner to stand beside and not underneath a man, all forms of domestic violence against women should be stopped. A wife is not a punching bag. Keep your hands in your pockets and walk away.

HEAR ME TOO women rights are human rights a woman has the legal right to participated equally as men socially, politically and ecomically. Both in their public and private lives.
