Apes are members of the Hominoidea superfamily of the Primate order.
In the current taxonomic system there are two hominoid families:
familia Hylobatidae consists of 4 genera and 12 gibbon species, including gibbon and gibbon larvae
Hominidae family consists of orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans
many species of monkeys today have threatened status due to the loss of their habitat in tropical rain forests and poaching. Currently there are 8 genus hominoids that have not been extinct, namely:
Homo (human)
Pan (chimp)
Gorilla
Pongo (orangutan)
Hylobates
Hoolock
Nomascus
Symphalangus
