Beautiful Sunday: great value silk and cotton clothes in Bangkok, ไปเดินดูร้านเสื้อผ้าที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า

This is my entry for #beautifulsunday created by @ace108. This Sunday has been very fast moving for me with lots of fluctuating energy. So, I needed to spend my energy by going window shopping at my favourite shopping center: Amarin Plaza.

This old shopping mall sits in the middle of a famous shopping area with more modern and luxurious malls such as World Trade Center, Isetan, Gasorn, Siam Paragon, Central Chitlom and Siam Discovery. All these malls are within walking distance and can be reached by two skytrain stations: Siam and Chitlom stations. I always feel strangely uneasy walking in all other shopping malls in this area. Even though there are several Hindu God’ shrines in this area, the underlying energy still seems very different to me each time I walk in other malls.

This is the shrine of Tan Tao Amarin which sits on the left corner of Amarin Plaza. You could find other bigger shrines of Ganesha, Trimurti, Shiva and Umadevi in other malls. I didn’t pay much attention to the Amarin Hindu God earlier as I was not as superstitious as most Thais. But one day I went to have a good look at the shrine; the gentle energy I could feel there completely changed my mind. No wonder, I always feel comfortable there.

I took my photos from the walkway that connect all these shopping malls and the two skytrain stations. The other mall with nice energy is Gasorn which is opposite Amarin Plaza. But this mall is solely for expensive and luxurious brand name shops and high end restaurants, so I only go there to take photos of their Christmas decorations. Here are photos of their present decorations.

To my dismay, there are major changes to the structures of the shops inside Amarin Plaza. The management has ordered all the small shops of crafts and art objects on the third floor to move out by the beginning of next year. To me, these small shops are just like those shops in Jatujak Market or the weekend JJ market. So, some of my friends’ shops are having closing down sale.

All these small shops selling cute souvenirs, woven scarfs by villagers, dolls, cotton shawls and hand made clothes are going to disappear by early next year, in January. So, this is a really good time to go shopping at Amarin Plaza as you’ll get more discount.

I feel sorry for a very old antique shop in the corner, as it is going to be very difficult for the elderly owner to find a new location with reasonable rent. I think the new aggressive management wants to renovation the whole place in order to upgrade the mall and to increase the rent! This mall has not been renovated for about thirty years, so the structure and architecture are solid and very classic; it was one of the nicest design mall of its time as it was originally owned by a Japanese company. I could see solid hard wood and Italian marbles in the old structures. Things are changing so drastically nowadays as if to warn me not to be complacent. This gives me some inkling of the uncertainty of the coming new year!

วันอาทิตย์นี้เรายุ่งทั้งวัน แต่ไม่ค่อยมีอะไรที่มีสาระมากนัก สมองมันมีเรื่องให้ย่อยมากกว่า จนกว่าเราจะหายจากความสับสน ตอนบ่ายเราคิดว่าเราไปเดินเล่นใช้พลังงานที่สะสมมาทั้งวันดีกว่า เราจึงไปที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่าที่ยอดฮิตของเราดีกว่า แม้ว่าแถวนั้นจะมีห้างใหญ่ที่ทันสมัย และหรูมากกว่าหลายแห่ง แต่เราก็ชอบพลังงานของที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่ามากกว่า เราเดินเล่นที่นี่ได้อย่างสบายใจ อีกที่หนึ่งที่เราชอบคือ เกสร แต่ว่าที่นั่นมีแต่ร้านหรูๆและร้านอาหารแพงๆเท่านั้น เราจึงชอบไปถ่ายรูปที่นั่นช่วงก่อนปีใหม่ เพราะเขาจะแต่งห้างอย่างอลังการมาก

ตอนนี้อัมรินทร์พลาซ่าเริ่ม มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างน่าใจหาย ผู้บริหารใหม่กำลังจะทำให้ ห้างที่ติดดินกลายเป็นห้างระดับหรู ที่มีแต่สินค้าที่มียี่ห้อดังๆ ทำให้ร้านเล็กๆที่ขายของทำมือ และของที่ทำโดยชาวบ้านโอท็อป กำลังจะต้องย้ายออกไปต้นปีหน้า ร้านพวกนี้เป็นที่ขายของชำร่วยดีๆ ในราคาถูกมาก มีตั้งแต่ตุ๊กตา ผ้าพันคอ เสื้อผ้าทอมือ และเสื้อผ้าไหมในราคาที่ต่อได้ด้วย ร้านของคนรู้จักหลายคนกำลังลดราคาเพราะต้องปิดร้าน ดังนั้น ช่วงนี้เป็นเวลาที่เหมาะมากกับการมาเดินดูของดีในราคาถูกที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า เราก็เห็นใจร้านขายของเก่าที่อยู่มานาน แต่ขายของไม่ค่อยได้เพราะพิษเศรษฐกิจ เขาอาจจะหาร้านใหม่ไม่ได้เพราะราคาค่าเช่าที่ในเมืองนั้นสูงมาก

Some of these shops have very nice collections of bright colour shirts in cotton and silk at reasonable prices.

นอกจานนี้ที่นี่ยังมีร้านที่รับตัดเย็บเสื้อผ้าที่เก่งมากด้วย เขามีฝีมือดีมาก ผลงานเขาดูน่าสนใจมาก และใกล้ๆกันก็มีร้านที่ให้เช่าชุดไทยและชุดแต่งงานด้วย

This shop offers tailor made clothes and costumes.

This shop offers rental wedding gowns and nice evening costumes.
