Kuda laut termasuk jenis ikan. Kuda laut bernafas dengan insang, sama seperti ikan. Ukurqn kuda laut beragam, mulai dari 16 milimeter hingga 35 cm.
Tetapi, kuda laut memiliki perbedaan dengan ikan. Perbedaannya terletak pada cara berenang. Ikan-ikan yang lain berenang dengan cara menggerakkan sirip, sedangkan kuda laut berenang dengan cara naik turun. Gerakan naik turun ini diatur oleh kantung renang yang berisi udara di tubuhnya.
Mata kuda laut dapat bergerak ke segala arah. Selain itu, mata kuda laut juga dapat melihat dua benda secara bersamaan. Telur-telur laut akan di simpan pada kuda laut jantan oleh kuda laut betina. Sehingga, apabila memetas maka anak-anak kuda laut akan lahir dari kuda laut jantan.
