The wreckage of the Sewol ferry has been lifted to an upright position in the southwestern port of Mokpo, some 90 kilometers away from Jindo Island, South Korea on Thursday, to permit a further search of the remains of the victims, citing from a state-run commission, according to Yohap News.
The 6,800-tonne vessel that carried 476 passengers on board capsized and sank in waters off Jindo Island on April 16, 2014, claiming the lives of 300 people.
Family members of the victims were in attendance when the vessel was lifted upright and some of them were seen bursting into tears.
