An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale (SR) that shook the east coast of Taiwan, caused a hotel and four other buildings to collapse. At least two people were killed and more than 200 others wounded.
According to the United States Geological Center (USGS), the epicenter was reported to be at a depth of 10km, about 22km northeast of Hualien City. The quake rocked the area by midnight.
China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported, at least five buildings collapsed. "Two people unfortunately died," Prime Minister Taiwanese William Lai said at an emergency government meeting, as quoted by Reuters.
