Troubleshooting EOS Distribution App with Metamask

in #eos7 years ago (edited)

You're probably reading this because you may have trouble reaching the EOS Distribution App with your Metamask setup.

Here are a few options that have worked for me to get it working again:

First things first, ensure your Metamask is unlocked and you are visiting the site from a non-US IP address. Launch the distribution app from https://eos.io/instructions instead of refreshing an existing URL.

Option 1. Right click on Metamask and click 'Manage Extensions' > Uncheck 'Enable' Metamask > Recheck 'Enable' Metamask > Unlock Metamask > Reload EOS Distribution App

Option 2. Click on Metamask and in between the Fox and Metamask logo click on 'Ethereum Main Net' > Click 'Custom RPC' > Enter "http://rpc.makerdao.com:7777" and click save > Switch to the Custom RPC network we just created > Reload EOS Distribution App (Note: If EOS Distribution App still does not load switch back and forth between Main Ethereum Network and the Custom RPC address. Most times the Main Ethereum Network works best.)

Option 3. Uninstall Metamask from Chrome > Reinstall Metamask > Import your original account with your private key in the settings menu > Unlock account > Reload EOS Distribution App

Option 4. Close Chrome browser > Reopen Chrome browser > Try Option 1 or Option 2 again

Option 5. Access the distribution app by running your own Parity node. Here's a tutorial here: https://steemit.com/syntaxerror/@altruist/syntaxerror-unexpected-end-of-json-input-using-metamask-with-eos-token-distribution

Be patient. At times, I've had to try loading the distribution app 20 times before it loads. Then once it loads, it loads fine.

@xbm,
Hello,
The interface is not working for me this entire day, i tried all the steps. but very often the interface reports gateway, syntax errors,
SyntaxError: Unexpected token < in JSON at position 0 and
Unexpected end of JSON input

Is there a way to transfer the tokens to a kraken wallet without the eos.io interface?

It's been down for me as well. Dan reports that the Hong Kong team is working on additional RPC servers that should be up shortly. Additionally, I believe running your own Parity node will allow you access.

First off,
Thank you for your time and reply!
I have no idea how to set up a parity node, but i will research and hopefully make it happen.

Could you maybe post it here once you have figured this out? I am running into the same problem today and also have no idea how to set up my own parity node... Thanks in advance!

They appear to have fixed the problem today. By using Metamask and the NEW custom EOS rpc (old one didn't ever connect). Allow the distribution app to reload itself for several minutes. It eventually works when connected to the new RPC.

This is helpful. A lot of people report problems with MetaMask in the EOS Telegram chat.

Hey, whenever I hit 'Send ETH' in the eos/distribution site it just hangs, the metamasker confirmation window doesn't popup (to confirm that I want to transfer the ETH).
I've tried everything, but it just won't open the confirmation window.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Sounds like your instance of the Distribution App is stale. Refresh the page and reload the Distribution App.

Option 2 hang on "Searching for Network"

Yes, it seems the MakerDAO network is congested. I've only been able to get it working twice. Main Ethereum Network works best for now. I'll update the article if Block. One provides additional RPC servers.

Today the distribution app just doesn't work at all

Yep, same issue here... Tried all day more than a hundred times to refresh the page at different times of the day. Super congested.

OK, with me same thing, I tried whole day and last night from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Nothing. Turning on / off, unlocking again. Doesn't matter what you do. I guess you just be patient.
This morning I got in after trying 30 min. Now again congested, cannot get in. Like to claim my tokens to see if I can offer them at Etherdelta......
