Collusion will NOT matter for EOS - A Lesson from Open Source Technology

Dan is once again a step ahead of the pack with how EOS will function with producers working together. Let's consider the current 'FUD' that is making its way around the block for this week. Apparently a spreadsheet of Chinese producers got leaked and introduces a ton of current producers who are working to keep each other in power.

What I don't think a lot of people realize is that none of this will matter in the long run.

What the am I talking about?
  • Side Chains
  • Open Source Technology

These two together are going to create a hell of an issue for anyone trying to stop the virus that is EOS. I see it as a human good virus. Consider the following; open source technology once released is nearly impossible to unrelease. It's like that bad photo someone released on the internet. Nobody will ever forget it, it will always exist, and that is why none of this matters.

What happens when a group of producers collude together and start messing with how the network works? Well you've got quite a few options:

  • Spin up a side chain.
  • Start an entirely new network with new rules.

The key thing about EOS that everyone seems to overlook is that ANYONE can start up a new EOS network with the right resources. Side chains will have a prominent effect over the entire EOS ecosystem allowing multiple chains to create their own rulings and completely get past this collusion problem.

Remember when Limewire existed?

Everyone used Limewire if they're from the 2000's. Anyone could grab the software and redistribute it to their friends through other means. It eventually got shut down, but what happened after Limewire? Frostwire happened. An open source technology that allows you to download torrents.

Worst case scenario?

The most these colluding producers can do is not accept side-chains. What do we do then? We spin up another network and continue on like normal. Oh look over there it's Telos. Let me just move my EOS program over to that.

Open source technology is a virus that cannot be stopped. Never forget that.
