All BPCs (Block Producer Candidates) within the EMLG (EOS Mainnet Launch Group) have agreed to launch the last minute patched 1.0.2 version of the EOSIO network which they recognize as the EOS mainnet.
Several thousand people have witnessed the moment in various live streams, just around 2k with @ivanli who was also live streaming on YouTube (play from 01:12:00 to see the final moments and the applause).
Right before the call the community was quite impatient as per @gosia888 Twitter survey
It took almost 50 minutes for the BPCs to join and validate all identities in the Zoom meeting. This was necessary as there were some fake votes the day before so "candidate" or "witness" status was assigned to each participant prior to voting.
What happened then was pure joy and excitement as the voting commenced in the chat. No "NO-GO" votes were recorded and everyone was cheering as the "GO" votes were appearing on the screen.
Notes from the call will follow soon with BPCs posting updates on their social media channels.
What's next
EOS token holders will now vote for 21 Block Producers to run the network. When at least 15% (150 MM) of all EOS tokens are staked the network will become live. If you are new to the topic you may also want to check the EOS Block Producer Voting Guide.
But before the staking can even begin the mainnet needs to be launched first. The launch agenda is now being updated by ABP (Appointed Block Producer). ABP was selected randomly to boot up and run the network until the 15% quorum is reached. While ABP's identity is a secret there's a live communication with all the other BPCs and they're working on the agenda together.
The latest EOS launch agenda shared on the call was still work in progress and looks like this:
This is a defining moment for the whole EOS community.
As happy as I am with the unanimous GO vote, I am also a bit sceptical that literally everyone actually wanted to vote Go. I feel some only voted GO as the fear of being shunned at a BPC later.
Who are your top 3 BPC's?
I like EOS Canada for being very active in the testing/validating phase.
generOUS because of there mission statement about how they will use there profits.
And LiquidEOS by Bancor because of there geographical location, baremetal hw, and they have a great team behind them.
I think you are spot on with the fear of being shunned by the community if voting "no-go". Several people were giving heads up notices of this king in the Telegram group before the call started.
It certainly helped to boot up the network sooner. On the other hand, we also need smooth operation and upgrades which some of the less prepared BPCs might not be able to deliver in a long run.
Overall, I feel this kind of community pressure is going to help. We have finally started. If (when) things go wrong the underperforming BPs can be outvoted and replaced with new ones.
And while I haven't done an in-depth research on all of the BPCs I do have some favorites naturally as I was watching them for some time now.
David Moss (even though he can't be elected) – showed some natural leadership, keeping the community focused and effective which I think is very important for the future
EOS Canada – same reasons as you've already mentioned above, they look very enthusiastic about the whole thing too
Cypherglass – also helpful and active in the previous stages, very good on YouTube but very young too
EOS Authority – excellent job with the registration checking tools and informing the community long time before the snapshot. Sharing valuable info which I can't find elsewhere and showing constant dedication which I think a scammer simply won't bother with. I believe their intentions are good, don't know about tech. capabilities though.
Bitfinex – well, it's an exchange. If they don't want to play with the network then there's none.
Great piece of info! Are you aware who the ABPs are?
Thx. At the moment the ABPs' identities are kind of secret. Near the end of the stream @ivanli was in talk with EOS Sweden - they said only a few people know.
However, next milestone is around 25 minutes from now. We can expect more info to be shared as we proceed.
Yeah only managed to see the full stream afterwards... Very excited how it's going to continue...
For the record, here's the mainnet launch livestream (watch from 28:40) - EOS is live now!
