Although lamestream news outlets are condemning president Trump's recent action on placing tariffs on solar panels & washing machines from China, this news is actually great for both America and the environment. Let me explain.
The superfreighter ships which transport goods from China, produce more pollution then all the automobiles in the world combined. Unlike most automobiles, these ships run on bunker oil, one of the dirtiest fuels, with no emmisions standards. This in conjunction with unregulated manufacturing processes in China has a negative impact on the environment. On a side note, Disney has built 3 new cruise ships, which run on natural gas (CNG), which is much cleaner burning.
By placing tariffs on goods from overseas, people in America will be incentivised to buy solar panels manufactured domestically from companies like Tesla, whose solar roof tiles are cheaper than traditional roof tiles. Trade deficits may be lowered or eliminated as well & more manufacturing jobs will be brought back to America.
Since the main problem is the super freighted ships and the fuel it uses which causes pollution and is bad for the environment, i feel an alternative solution should be found for another means to be used to transport these goods. What do you think?
It would have to be an international effort & ships powered by bunker oil are the cheapest means of transport right now. Most of these ships are registered in foreign countries, which have no environmental standards. CNG freighters or nuclear freighters might be better but the companies which own these ships won't pay for them. Also, China still has low manufacturing standards, when it comes to the environment. I'd much rather see solar panels & batteries manufactured domestically from companies like Tesla.
Interesting points. I don't agree with a lot of what Trump does, or more likely his administration does, but a tariff on these panels is a good thing
