RE: Idea Explorer : Steem Based Instagram

in #entrepreneurship8 years ago (edited)

I have one possible solution: A lightweight blockchain could store metadata such as upvotes and information regarding a heavyweight image blockchain. Lightweight and heavyweight blockchains would be connected in that a record would exist in the lightweight blockchain that pointed to the the corresponding image in the heavyweight blockchain. So when the user uploads an image, that image is stored in the heavyweight blockchain and the metadata regarding it is stored in the lightweight blockchain. The heavyweight blockchain would serve as verification that the user uploaded that specific image. Thanks for the insightful comment!

That's a good idea :) You could maybe even have multiple heavyweight block chains and shard them out if they get to a certain size in GB too maybe.

I wish there was some simplified NPM Module to create blockchains. It'd be fun to try and prototype ideas with it. I was thinking a Twitter version of Steemit would be very awesome also.

Why don't we just store the images on ipfs and keep the ipfs hash in the metadata?

I wasn't aware of IPFS storage before you commented this (I'm still a learning dev haha) after doing a couple of Google searches and reading some things about it I definitely think that this is a great way to store media in an efficient and safe way. If anyone else is interested in learning about IPFS storage here is a link to the IPFS Distributed Storage Website. Thanks for the informative comment @picokernel :)
