RIP Ken Dodd

in #entertainment7 years ago (edited)

This week we lost another old-time entertainer. Sir Ken Dodd started his career in the 1950s and never seemed to stop. He had various TV shows and I used to watch some as a kid. His Diddy Men puppets were part of that and their supposed home of Knotty Ash became famous. It's where Ken lived in Liverpool.

Ken also had a successful career as a singer.

In the 1980s he made the news when he was accused of tax evasion. He was aquitted, but it was revealed that he had a fortune in cash in his attic. He was knighted last year for his entertainment and charity work. He married his long-term partner two days before he died.

In this set he references his legendary live shows that could go on for four hours of non-stop jokes. I never got to see him live.

Well played Ken.

Before your post I'd never heard of the best man, but looking at those video's I can understand why he was so succesfull. He seems like a very funny guy. In holland we had Toon Hermans, he was also a comedian which could quite good sing as well and had several hits in the netherlands. People of that caliber aren't born anymore. rip..

He was from a different era. Some of his jokes could be considered rude, but I don't think he was out to offend people. A lot of comics from that time could be pretty sexist and racist, but he seemed to be gentler than them. I'm sure he wasn't perfect, but he brought a lot of happiness (as the song says).

I think Toon Hermans was from that era too, and also indeed sometimes called rude. But to be honest, I like that far more than some comedians from this era, they are often a lot alike. No distinction anymore..

I did get to see him in Blackpool of all places when I was in my early teens. Can't remember much of the show however.

He must have played to millions over the years.

It's a British legend of comedy !!

One of the great music Gall like you are too rare. We will not find a relay with the Kev Adams or Jeremie Ferrari, that's it.

He was a legendary comedian,a singer and occasional actor. Rest in peace sir.
