- The United States Film Academy began on Tuesday the expected announcement of Oscar nominees, in which the Mexican Guillermo del Toro and his film "La forma del agua" have large chances
The 24 categories for the 90th edition of the most coveted film awards, which will be presented on March 4 in Hollywood, are announced in two blocks.
The Mexican film added seven nominations in the first block: production design, cinematography, costumes, sound editing, sound mixing, soundtrack and film editing.
"The shape of water" tells a love story between a blind cleaner and an amphibious creature stored in a water tank in a US military facility during the Cold War.
He won the Golden Lion of Venice and the prize of the union of producers of the United States (PGA), in addition to the Golden Globe for direction to Del Toro, which was also nominated for the awards given by the union of directors (DGA).
Del Toro appears favorite to the directorial prize, to which he was nominated in 2007 for "El laberinto del fauno", which won three statuettes, but not the director: Martin Scorsese won with "Los infiltrados".
