MMA World (Mixed Martial Arts) #1

in #entertainment7 years ago

Hello friends,

Watching MMA and following what happens in the world of MMA is one of my favorite hobbies. I've been watching MMA since Pride still existed. So that must be about 15 years now? There were some EPIC fights in Pride. Like the time when Wanderlei Silva KO'd Rampage Jackson the first two times. Or when Fedor got suplexed on his neck by Kevin Randleman but ended up winning the fight via kimura anyway.

After watching some of these Pride fights I naturally started watching the UFC too. I've been watching UFC since almost the beginning of the Fertitta era so a very long time ago. For those of you who don't know the Fertittas, They are two brothers who are casinos and resorts owners in las vegas. In 2001 they bought the UFC which wasn't really making money at that time for 2 million dollars. If you hear Dana White or Joe Rogan talk about this time, they always mention how much money the UFC was bleeding at the time. I think at one point they were almost 40 million in the hole. Their casinos must have been doing good because they stuck with the UFC until recently when they sold it for 4 Billion dollars! It is truly amazing to see MMA these days. The Fertittas really helped grow the sport into what it is today.

I've always loved watching fights. I guess it's because my brother and I used to fight all the time growing up. To be honest I really miss those days. I'm originally a boxing guy, growing up I watched Erik Morales, Tito Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar De la Hoya and of course Mike Tyson. Now, I'm a 90's kid so I really just missed Iron Mike in his prime when he was knocking people out left and right which is a shame but I do remember watching the Holyfield fight where Mike bit off part of his ear. I was maybe 6 or 7 at the time.

From 2000 and on MMA started to gain more of a following and boxing was dying off. There were no real fighters anymore in boxing, warriors if you will. Of course, Manny was beating all of my childhood mexican heroes at that time so I naturally didn't like him. I had respect for him because of the way he fights, he gives it everything he has but I didn't like him. After reading up on his life growing up, how he struggled, I really gained more respect for Manny. How can you not? He is truly a fighter, in life and in the ring, a real inspiration for people and children all over the world.

I just really want to blog about MMA, fighters, potential fights and maybe predictions. So I started this blog to do just that.
