Orca trained speaking human language for the first time in history
Hello Steemians! Today I bring you a very incredible story of an orca. The orca for those who do not know is a species of cetacean odontoceto belonging to the family Delphinidae, which inhabits all the oceans of the planet. It is the largest species of dolphin and the only existing current recognized within the genus Orcinus. This cetacean has a robust and hydrodynamic complexion. With nothing more to say, I leave you with the story and a small video. I hope you like it
The researchers discovered that a 14-year-old female orca named Wikie could mimic her caregivers' way of speaking with words like 'hello', 'goodbye', 'Amy' and 'one, two, three' spoken in English. The animal also managed to imitate the howling of a wolf, the bellowing of an elephant and the sound of a door creaking, orcas communicate with each other using a wide range of sounds and there are even specific 'dialects' for certain animal communities.
The scientists compared the 'speech' of the killer whale with the originals through an algorithm that allowed them to see their audios as if they were a visual pattern and to compare the coincidence with the original sound. Likewise, some blindfolded people listened to the original audio samples and those emitted by the orca and concluded that there was a certain similarity. The results of the experiment were published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
And you, what do you think? Do they sound familiar or not the words imitated by the killer whale?
