Good day companions today I found out about the disease of the Elk and / or deer "zombies" that are alerting all countries.
We are going to explain this disease that not only affects the aforementioned animal species, this disease is called chronic wasting or chronic wasting (EDC).
Chronic wasting disease / Chronic wasting
It is one is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) that affects deer, deer and elk raised in ranches and of free breeding, in North America. This disease mainly causes damage to the nervous system by a natural animal protein that is termed as "prions". (ISDH 2019) this disease is progressive, deadly and degenerative; It was discovered in 1967 in red state in a captive mule deer, it was also found that it has a close relationship with mad cow disease among others. The species that are known to be susceptible to EDC are; the Canadian deer or elk (Cervus canadensis), the red deer (Cervus elaphus), the mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), the black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus), the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), the deer sica ( Cervus nippon) and moose (Alces alces) as well as the hybrids of these species. There is no vaccination for this disease
Clinical signs
Clinical signs may include:
progressive weight loss
stumble
tremors
lack of coordination
blank facial expressions
excessive salivation and drooling
loss of appetite
excessive thirst and urination
Languor
teeth grinding
abnormal posture of the head
fallen ears
Unfortunately, these signs are not specific to EDC and may occur with other diseases or malnutrition.
Does chronic wasting disease affect humans?
It has been studied by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, and no evidence has been found that there is a serious risk to people. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also recommended that there is no current scientific evidence that EDC can infect humans. However, as a precautionary measure, the WHO advises that deer and elk with evidence of EDC should not be consumed by people or other animals.

It is known to have infected deer, deer and wild elk in 21 states and in Canada: Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa, New York, West Virginia, Virginia , North Dakota, Maryland, Texas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, as well as in Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada. It has been diagnosed in the facilities of ranched and captive-bred cervids in Alberta, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Texas (TAHC, July 2015)
