Sirens... Myth or reality?

Hello friends of Steemit! Do you know the sirens? ... Are they really real? ... There are many sightings in the world about this being half woman and half fish, as well as there are many false evidences about them, being such an interesting subject and extrovert, let's talk a little about that, okay?

Sirens are beings whose upper half usually looks like a beautiful woman, while, from the middle of their body down, they do not have legs but a fish tail. Its origin goes back to Greek mythology, although sirens have also appeared in the mythology and folklore of different civilizations.

In spite of being original of the mythological field, with the step of the time the sirens were introduced in the sphere of the folklore, along with legends and the popular beliefs. Thus, throughout the centuries there have been many sightings of alleged sirens, which have been decreasing their frequency with the advance of scientific knowledge and the retreat of superstition. However, even in the current century there have been sightings.

However elementary the answer may seem, the fact is that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the USA (NOAA) has had to warn in a statement that "there has never been evidence of the existence of these aquatic humanoids".

The reason for this unusual announcement has been the broadcast of a documentary on the popular television network Animal Planet of the Discovery Channel. The film, entitled `Sirens: the body found 'suggested the possible existence of sirens and was very successful among the American population.

In spite of everything, the NOAA statement is ambiguous and leaves a question in the air: "Why, then, occupy the collective unconscious of almost all the sailor peoples? That is a question that is better left to historians, philosophers and anthropologists. "

NOAA also reviews the history of these legendary beings: "in the ancient Far East, sirens were the wives of powerful sea dragons, and served as messengers of trust between their spouses and the emperors on earth," and remember that Homer already spoke of them in his famous work `The Odyssey '. "The mermaids first appeared in cave paintings in the late Paleolithic (Stone Age) period of about 30,000 years ago, when modern men gained dominion over the land and, presumably, began to navigate the seas", explains the statement.

To the present date there is still no conclusive evidence that suggests the existence of sirens; and, what in the past could have been taken as evidence (the false corpses created by taxidermists, for example), in general terms is already clear. But in spite of everything a small spark of doubt subsists, to the point that some have made the scientific speculation that the sirens could be a missing link in human evolution; and others, from pseudoscience or esotericism, have affirmed that aquatic women are a genetic experiment of extraterrestrials, or a certain type of otherworldly entity, be it spirits, tulpas, or even demons ...
