Have you ever encountered these symbols?

I am sure that if you have noticed, but as it usually happens, there are so many things in life that we can see again and again, for continuous days. And they are so many that many times we simply ignore them, and we think that if they exist ... It must be something. But if we sit down and use a little of our time to investigate, we can find great treasures that never, but we never imagined that they would exist. And it is that these two symbols the truth is that they have a great history behind them.

I invite you to stay and join me in this adventure ...

I am sure that you have ever visited a medical center, and you found one of these two symbols, or you could have seen it in a TV series. You saw them and did not pay attention to them, or just your curiosity did not go so far as to ask you What does it mean? Where did they come from?

So to begin with I introduce you to the Rod of Asclepius:

Yes! Believe it or not, that's his name. Do you think we are going to the era of the Gods?

This man was known in Rome as Asclepius and in Greece as Asclepius, so we go back to the time of the year 1200 a.C, at that time there was no person who practiced surgery as a profession, so was Asclepio the first person to invent the medicine as a specialty, he created something similar to an office, but not to any type of surgery, turning it into a degrading profession and bad view.

He created something similar to a patent in such a way that no other person could practice that profession, unless it was transferred as a family inheritance only to male children. The father of Asclepio or Aesculapius had a great knowledge of vegetation and medicinal plants, for that reason Asclepio learned the art of healing and the correct use of natural remedies.

Asclepio had 6 children whom he sent to the war, Panacea, Aceso, Higia, Yaso and Eglee, Macaón who died participating in the famous war of Troy and Podalirio. The latter was lost in the middle of a storm on the coast of Asia, enemy territory, being wounded was rescued by a pastor who welcomed him and hid him from the people who sought him, later Podalirus marries the daughter of the King, then that he healed her after she fell from a roof. Podalirio continued practicing medicine, founding years later two cities to one of her called Syrna in the name of his wife and the other with the name of the pastor who had saved him long ago.

That is the story of Asclepius until 6600 a.C, but what happened next?

After almost 600 years after his natural death, arises the myth of Asclepius god of medicine son of Apollo with a human named Coronid, this god was very skilled can cure all kinds of diseases by a stick, reaching such a degree

To master the art of the resurrection, in his eagerness to resurrect, he did it continually with the dead he saw. Zeus was not very happy with the resurrection of mortals, fearing that the order of the world would be altered. Asclepius resurrected Hippolytus who was killed by his own father, this last action did not please Zeus, making the decision to kill him with lightning. In this way Asclepio ascended to the sky becoming the constellation of Serpentario or better known as Ophiuchus.

The rod that is surrounded by a serpent, represents the same rod used by Asclepius and is also the symbol of medicine, and the fact that it is surrounded by a snake, symbolizes rejuvenation.

And what about the other Symbol?

Now it is the turn of the Caduceus:

And yes, this symbol also has its Mythological past. To begin with let's talk about Hermes, the messenger Olympic god, called in Roman mythology as Mercury. He was a very astute god of thought, guardian of doors and prudence, having a great ability in all the relations of social interchange, this together with his cunning, he made him the god of deceit. All the acts committed by Hermes were of great skill, dexterity, even elegance. Apollo, his older brother, gives a caduceus to Hermes, and he in turn, gives him a Pan flute. It is said that with this caduceus Hermes he could open and close the eyes of mortals.

That is why today the Caduceus is a symbol of commerce, being also used in institutions dedicated to the study and teaching of economic sciences. It represents neutrality in the same way, and because Hermes is associated, it can be used to represent everything related to commerce and messaging. Being also confused with the rod of Asclepius.

Anyway...!!

After having done this mythological tour, we can realize the great information and exciting story that can be behind a simple logo. Maybe they find some things in life that we will not get an explanation for. But if there are many more things that we can take great advantage and soak in that knowledge that is there ... And we just have to search.
