Hello! I'm @blackbird24 and I going to recommend you 10 songs. This is the third part of Music for the Soul, section where I recommend songs to Steemit users but:
Who is @blackbird24?
I'm a person who love music, I listen to different kind of music and, in my free times, I like to investigate about new music and new methods to create music. That's why the main topic of mi blog is to analyze albums, soundtracks and more, however, I do not like to be limited by a only kind of topic. That's the reason I also write about any topic that I found interesting.
PLEASE ENJOY IT !!!
EVERY PLANET WE REACH IS DEAD
Artist: GORILLAZ
Album: DEMON DAYS
Year: 2005
Genre: ROCK, ALTERNATIVE, POP, BLUES, JAZZ, SOUL
We start the list with a big one, Gorillaz, the biggest virtual band in history created by one of the brightest musical minds of the last decades: Damon Albarn. Every Planet We Reach Is Dead usually goes unnoticed because the album of which the song belongs is full of tremendous themes. For anyone who knows the work of Gorillaz can say very quietly that the "Demon Days" is one of the best albums of the band. One of my favorite parts of the song is the instrumental part and in the next few lines you'll know why. We have to be clear that Gorillaz loves to merge musical genres to the point of converting, the fact of mixing different rhythms, in his own musical label and just in the instrumental part of this song, has captured the whole essence of Gorillaz. You can listen elements of blues, old jazz, various elements of percussion, clapping and African artists leaving their sounds in the theme. Also electric guitars with "wah wah" effect and many layers of synthesizers. A total madness. The song shows us nice melodies and somewhat cheerful, however, the lyrics show deep sadness.
But God only knows it’s
Getting hard to see the sun coming through
I love you
But what are we going to do?
JUSTIFY
Artist: THE RASMUS
Album: BLACK ROSES
Year: 2008
Genre: ROCK, ALTERNATIVE, DARK POP
The Rasmus, a native quartet from Finland, brings us a very dark rock album very much in the style of the album that gave it international fame, "Dead Letters" (2003). I think that what makes The Rasmus special is the peculiar voice of Lauri Ylonen and in this song the singer shines. I can say that "Justify" is an easy song to listen to.
Could do much better, it’s true
That didn’t matter to you
…
You were the answer
All that I needed to justify
Justify my life!
I TOOK A PILL IN IBIZA
Artist: JAMIE CULLUM
Album: THE SONG SOCIETY
Year: 2018
Genre: POP, JAZZ
It is very likely that Jamie Cullum is not on your radar, however, I will tell you that he is a worthwhile artist. The English pianist and jazzer up to the veins brings us a jazz album bathed in subtle tinges of modern pop. "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" is a song by the pop artist Mike Posner but Cullum does a pretty decent cover. A few years ago, when the song made its debut, Mike Posner was criticized by the hotel industries of Ibiza because the lyrics of the song refers to the bohemian lifestyle and the excesses that are often seen in Ibiza.
To show Avicii I was cool
…
You don’t wanna be high like me
THE ULTRACHEESE
Artist: ARCTIC MONKEYS
Album: TRANQUILITY BASE HOTEL & CASINO
Year: 2018
Genre: LOUNGE, SOUL, POP
The last album of the band of Sheffield was controversial, and it continues being it, being immensely different from the previous albums. On this occasion Alex Turner and company, having the piano as the protagonist and not the electric guitars or the drums, bring us an old-time pop album with sixties airs. "The Ultracheese" is a ballad in piano with good soul with a shy guitar solo that, to my surprise, ends up giving body to the song. I must admit that it is one of my favorite songs on the album.
I’ve done some things that I shouldn’t have done
But I haven’t stopped loving you once
POINTLESSNESS
Artist: THE VOIDZ
Album: VIRTUE
Year: 2018
Genre: PSYCHEDELIC POP, NEW WAVE, NEOPSICODELIA
The alternative project of the vocalist of The Strokes, Julian Casablancas, has released an album that marks the new influences of the vocalist. "Pointlessness", last track of the album, is a slow ballad loaded with synthesizers that takes us along a path of many colors and darkness. I love the apocalyptic end of the song and the voice of Casablancas sounds tremendously good. Perfect to listen to alone in your room.
You’re gonna be forgotten
Any day now
Just like the others told you
DAYDREAM IN BLUE
Artist: I MONSTER
Album: NEVERODDOREVEN
Year: 2003
Genre: DANCE, PSYCHEDELIC POP, ELECTRO, ALTERNATIVE.
I doubt there is anyone, who is reading this, who knows I Monster. This British group, active since 1997, are dedicated to the experimentation of electronic music with other sounds. "Daydream In Blue" is his best known song and has more than one version. One is quite electronic and the other is more attached to acoustic pop. The latter will be shared below.
I fell asleep amid the flowers
For a couple of hours, on a beautiful day
THE SAME ASYLUM AS BEFORE
Artist: STEVEN WILSON
Album: TO THE BONE
Year: 2017
Genre: ART ROCK, POP, PROGRESSIVE ROCK
Steven Wilson, respected for his long contribution to music, is a British producer and multi-instrumentalist who dominates many musical genres ranging from environmental music, psychedelia, electronica, pop, metal and rock. Wilson is one of the most respected men in the music industry and for his 50 years of life he composed the album "To The Bone" which obtained the position 3 in the United Kingdom. His lyrics usually deal with very sad topics and are sometimes an implicit criticism of modern society and technology. "The Same Asylum As Before" has a very rocky start to give way, during the bridge, to a subtle pop that is taking shape until becoming progressive rock during the chorus.
You control in domination
You represent the people
But you don’t believe in free will for me
NO SURPRISES
Artist: RADIOHEAD
Album: OK COMPUTER
Year: 1997
Genre: ART ROCK, ALTERNATIVE ROCK
Radiohead, one of the greatest bands in history, released the album "OK Computer" in 1997, which is considered a masterpiece by unanimous decision by music experts. This album is the main pillar of modern rock, inspiring great bands like Muse and Coldplay. "No Surprises" is characterized by having the xylophone as the protagonist giving us a sweet and childish melody, almost like a musical box, and depressing lyrics loaded with pessimism, thus giving a contrast to the melody of the song. Thom Yorke, with the tired tone of voice giving signs of defeat, makes us a critic to the current society, of how the work exhausts each person, how it tires him emotionally and how he ends up destroying him. My favorite part of the song is during the final refrain where the voice, in a desperate cry, like drowning in the sea, asks to be freed from its torture. A beautiful and sad song like only Radiohead knows how to do.
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won’t heal
You look so tired, un happy
Bring down the government
They don’t, they don’t speack for us
STILL REMAINS
Artist: STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
Album: PURPLE
Year: 1994
Genre: ALTERNATIVE ROCK, SOUTHERN ROCK, GRUNGE
One of the greatest grunge bands in history with Scott Weiland, one of the best frontman in the history of music, at the head, they released their second album called "Purple" and unlike its predecessor, "Core" (1992 ), the American band moved a bit away from the grunge sound to lean towards the style of alternative rock with psychedelic rock and southern rock influences without leaving the style of music that saw them born: grunge. Unlike the other songs of Weiland that speak of bitter ruptures or substance abuse, "Still Remains" is a song of love without hope. A hidden gem.
Oh, you know I’ll beg for you
PRAY FOR ME
Artist: THE WEEKND ft. KENDRICK LAMAR
Album: BLACK PANTHER: THE ALBUM
Year: 2018
Genre: RAP, HIP HOP, POP, ELECTRO
The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar joined forces to create "Pray For Me", an exclusive theme for the movie "Black Panther". The theme starts with synthesizers with eighties airs that hypnotize the first moment and at the same time allows both artists to show off their own styles. It's a pretty nice song and, at times, with a lot of attack.
Go down that road again
It's all the same
I'm always ready to take a life again
