I'm not going to be really good at answering you on this one. I have seen people conducting contests, or having people nominate others they feel are deserving. I think either way can work.
The hard part is knowing if they'll do what you want. You can base it off of what they are doing now, I guess, which means they've been around long enough to figure a few things out, like the value of engagements.
You're right. 50 SP isn't a whole lot. To a new red fish it might seem like it, but it's not going to allow them to get to a whole lot more than what you're doing. I wouldn't let that stop you, though, if it's what you really want to do to help give back.
I'm sure you could find someone who would take it, and use it as much as they could in the way you would want. You would just need to make sure they're aware of your expectations and okay with it.
I'd say take a look down the list of the engagement league, or even the Top 100 that Asher created, and see who you can find there. It will take some time to go through, though, and I doubt you'll be wanting to give it to anyone with more than 500 SP, anyway.
I actually think someone needs at least 500 SP. Otherwise there is Almost no use in upvoting comments.
This conversation also brings me to another subject. Didn't you have a SP delegation from Asher?
Nope. I got an SP delegation from krnel for a week when he went on vacation, though. It was probably due to a recommendation that Asher gave about anyone on the engagement list being worthy of one. I didn't ask for it, and then didn't really know what to do with it when I got it. It was like 100 SP, if I remember right.
I don't really get as enthused as others do about receiving or giving delegations. I'm still on the fence, like I am with a few other things.
Why are you not really enthusiastic about receiving a delegation?
I'm in general terms not really interested in having only a few hundreds SP. Since I don't think having a $0.03 upvote or something similar will really get you somewhere. So one only needs enough SP to prevent bandwidth issues.
Oh, I don't know. Of all things that go on here, delegations are probably better than most. I just know if I had one of significant size for a decent period of time, say three months, that at the end of those three months when the delegation went back, I'd feel like I was almost starting over. It would be great while it lasted, and it could act as a motivator to try to do more.
Yet, there's only so much you're going to be able to do with the time you have to get anywhere, and so it just seems like I'd be on borrowed time. I don't like that.
I'm trying to do this as much as I can through just posting, commenting and curating, without really any other outside help other than what would come through upvotes. And of course, some comments and bounties here and there.
As I said, it's not like bidbots or self-upvotes or however else there is for people to go about trying to get ahead, so who knows. I might change my mind at some point. I just know the amount of SP I had for a week wasn't enough to continue to want it or to change my mind about having one.
