I've used some metrics (which is the fancy way of saying that made up some numbers) relating to:

- Comments - number of (C)
- Comments - replies to replies - depth > 2 (C R)
- Number of people spoken to (PS)
- Comments - length in characters (C L)
- Witness votes (W) (for those proxying witness votes, your total is always 30)
- Upvotes to others (V)
- Upvotes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - a (getting smaller each week) minus score for this one sorry! (S V)

Yeah curie rocks! All these engagement contests really work so well.. because people are actually taking the time to leave a valuable comment.. I love that.. it's much nicer when you get a vote with a comment, than only a vote with no words in the comment section.. At least, that's my opinion..
Many curie voted posts used to get only few comments.. now people actually take the time to write something, which is awesome..

Cheers for my prize. I've given up self-voting again for now as it doesn't make much difference to me and I can do more for others. I see too many people thinking it's the only way to make anything and end up getting flagged for it.
I always thought it was more, that if it was good enough to post, I should vote for it myself. But it does save me some time waiting for the up-vote to post....
:DI leave it to others to decide if it's good or not. I did self-vote when I first started and my vote was worthless anyway, then again recently to boost my SP a bit. Lately my voting power is down and I want to save it to help others. I do okay as I've built support over 2 years and 24000 posts/comments.
My vote is kind of worthless, but I vote for good content anyway. It is a lot of fun here on Steemit!

I vote because I want people to know I like their post. Sometimes it feels like I will never get to the point of a vote that will add money to those who so richly deserve said money. it takes so very long to get to that point.
BUT I will continue to post anyway, because there are a lot of good people here on Steemit!

Thank you for wondering about me.
I am doing okay. I wasn't ill nor anyone in my family. Just hit the Steemit brick wall again (it had been a few months actually), so while it wasn't what I wanted to be doing, I ended up taking time and slacking most of the rest when I was actually trying to accomplish something. I'm not sure if I'm out of the funk completely, but now my wife goes in for an outpatient surgery in a couple hours (hernia) which we're all believing to be routine (if such things are), and as long as we can keep her resting, she should be back to work in five weeks.
So, not sure how much I will be around this week, so in the event you don't see me much, that's the reason. I'm kind of hoping my wife will just sleep things off and won't give me a lot to do while she is. Wishful thinking. A guy can dream, right? :)
howdy sir Glen! praying for your wife this morning. sure missed conversing with you last week but real life and rejuvenation takes precedence..it will be wonderful to have you back though! God bless you guys and a very fast recovery for your wife!

Thank you for the well wishes and the prayers. She's been out of surgery for about 2.5 hours now and apparently all went well. When the surgeon got in there, she found to other much smaller hernias that she ended up sowing together as best she could. We've been back now for roughly 40 minutes and as long as we didn't undo everything they did in surgery getting her into bed, she should be okay. :)
wow sir Glen that is great news! now she just has to be super careful not to pull those stitches out right?

The larger hernia has some kind of meshing inside of it, which I'm assuming helps it to close, or causes it to be tighter, and so I'm not sure what could happen to it or with it. I just know that right now, it's the source of most of her pain/soreness. The other two were so small that the surgeon just did some kind of stitch work and didn't guarantee that they would hold regardless of what we did.
As it is, our bedroom is upstairs and aside from a couple of couches that wouldn't let her prop up very well, there wasn't too many options for her to be, so she had to up the stairs when we got home and that's basically where she's been since yesterday.
So, getting in out of bed has been more difficult, and I'm not sure what she's managed to do or not do as she gets in and out. I think mainly it's the larger hole they used to perform the surgery with (three holes as opposed to cutting her open), that's ailing her the most now.
sir Glen..so hernia's are tears in the stomach wall? how long did they say she needed to stay in bed? or did they?

I too was in a bit of a funk this past week. Just a bit of ennui really. This week I've got my mum coming to stay tomorrow for a week and then my brother and sister-in-law joining us on Friday for the long weekend.
I should be doing a bit of cleaning right now but I was out all morning so didn't want to get too far behind with replies.
I'm glad to hear you're OK other than the Steemit funk.

My wife is out of surgery and all seems to have gone well. Apparently, the surgeon found two other smaller hernias when she was in there fixing the main one. So, I think it took a little longer than planned, but we've been home now for close to an hour and she's in bed resting, I think. She hasn't called me, anyway. She's a hard one to keep off her feet for any great length of time.
It sounds like you'll have plenty of reason to be away from STEEM this week, and hopefully it will be rejuvenating and good company. Enjoy!

I honestly believe there are many people here for many reasons. Some are here for the social aspects others are here doing other things. It is all good in the end. We just naturally over time build our networks of those with similar interest.
So very true. I hope it didn't come across as negative it was just an observation. @headchange makes a great point I do have to remind myself of is we're not all here for the same reasons. It took me changing my own thinking and goals for things to change.
I do talk to about half of the top 10 already LOL. I know I just have to do my diligence.
I run into a lot of people who only want to take time for a polite reply then move on. Then there are people like steemchiller. I just want to leave a vote because I love steemworld. Trying to talk about all that technical stuff is beyond me. So I guess I am one of those teeth pulling people in some cases. π

Congratulations to all the green shaded people. I figured out the psychology behind shading the top in green, I'm jealous, or is it envious for green, who knows, it is a nice shade of green though that he uses.
I continue on the downward slide of engagement, but I have been trying to write more, and that means I need to think more, and that means I do not get around as much anymore, but in the end it is all excuses, I just have not been engaging as much lately, i still am not sure why, burn out possibly. Well it is raining here again in Alaska, so I may get a few more comments out today, but still have a post to make and a story to try to come up with.

I am okay, @abh12345. Not much happening last week other than wandering through a little "purpose of being on STEEM" and so forth. It had been a while, so I guess I was about due.
This week may be more of the same even though I think the fog is lifting. My wife is going in for hernia surgery in a couple of hours so I will probably be otherwise disposed for the rest of the week. I think. I'm going to try do what I can, but won't be here if she needs me for anything.

Lynn seems to have found a good balance posting 3 or so times each week, that will certainly allow more time in the comments.

haha! sir Asher...now that darn chair is putting alot of expectations on me, I try to avoid pressure and the chair is creating it! lol. ecoinstant proved last week that it is very doable so I'm not taking anything for granted but I certainly appreciate your confidence in me.
hahaha! "sitting on milk crates or concrete blocks" haha oh that sounds worse than my broken chair! well sir I try to be consistent but ecoinstant proved that anyone can win(not that he is just anyone) you have to really be organized and have a good plan. And there will be times when other work takes me away from steemit so I will be in and out of the top spots like everyone else.
Well, maybe not lynn or gillian, ever since I've been in the League they are at the top no matter what so I don't know how they do that, they're the real champions as well as yourself Glen because since I've been here no one has been more consistent than you either.
I just saw the comments spreading about the chair and that it was the cause for you getting back on top and thought, well, okay, I'm sure there is a role that it's playing, but the reality is, you're doing the work and ecoinstant, for all the effort he gave the prior week, is it sustainable? Is it something he wants to do every week? My guess is, probably not. So, anyway, trying to give credit where credit is due, trying to acknowledge the nice favor, and trying to be real. :)

A crazy amount of commenting from the league entrants - I think a large % of all the chat on Steem comes from these guys! Thanks Jill!
Indeed... I got curious and took a look at @penguinpablo's latest stats, and total posts from all sources (including bots, notifications, etc) runs about 100,000+/- a day, at the moment.
With the top 100 alone creating in excess of 17,000 posts, that means we account for about 2.5% of all Steemit activity! That's pretty mindblowing if you consider there are some 55,000 accounts currently being logged as active. Works out to about 0.18% of the active users generating 2.5% of the site's content. And if we distilled that down to percentage of human generated content, it would probably be closer to 5%.

Congratulations @janton, back on top! I guess you must have been "sitting well" this week, again! I like your approach though... a fine example of being truly social, when you consider your number of comments compared to the number of people you visit... actual conversations, not just a process of "leaving comments." As I've been pointing out pretty much since day one: *Communities are built by PEOPLE, not by code or bots.
That was exactly my thoughts!! But you said it way better. Yes true enough, we seem to forget the true value here. Most great and excellent posts go unnoticed and unappreciated because so many are paying bots. But how about the little red fishes who just started in, no enough sbd or steem to afford any bots. They had to learn to strive harder to keep up.
I have always set my mind that in every chance i get, i will connect. So let us not lose hope on this case..

I have MS. It prevents me from doing a lot of things...like walking. I use a mobility scooter to get around. So far, my right hand functions pretty well. I'm just a one finger typist!

I kind of like that happy dancer. May have to find myself one for my first top ten week. It is coming eventually.
I have got plenty of time to comment - I have nothing on my hands all day long. But I'm not always in the mood. These last months have been really though, and sometimes I just don't feel like doing anything but sleep.
But my state of mind is getting better every day. If only I would take out that laptop again... my typing-speed on my phone is really slow compared to that on my laptop.
I think I first used the gif when I ended in 2nd place a couple of months ago. Then my ranking dropped, so there was no use for it anymore. When I switched phones, I lost the saved image and couldn't find it anymore. Just today I came across it again, and I was so happy that I had it back, I couldn't resist using it again, even if it was to celebrate a lousy 12th place :0)
That is all a matter of perspective.
If you take into consideration 12th place was my best ever placement.
For me anywhere in the top 20 is pretty good, but hope to do top ten once at least.
Hope things get better. I think we are all rooting for you.
It's indeed a matter of perspective. The thing I remember best was ranking 2nd. Meanwhile, what I'm forgetting is that just a few weeks ago I barely made it to the list. If I rdmember correctly, I ranked somewhere between 60 and 70.
Pretty hard to digest, since i'm a very competitive person, lol. So maybe that happy dance was appropriate, when you consider where I'm coming from :0

You never know what might happen. Someone's chair might break or someone might need to take time off or someone might get bored and look for something else to do. So many possibilities.
I reckon switching from phone to laptop could make a huge difference. it would to me, that's for sure. π
Focusing on the numbers is not even an option, lol. Even if I could work on 2 laptops at the same time, typing with 4 hands, I wouldn't even come close to what @janton is doing.

aww I'm sorry to hear that @delishtreats, and as much as I understand your want to learn left-handed typing and retain your spot here, your doctor is right! Take as much of a break as needed; I'll be awaiting your full recovery and return :)
Thank you Lynn! The thing is that my arm was paralyzed for a month. I couldn't brush my teeth, comb my hair and my husband had to help me to get dressed. I couldn't move it at all. I had to take sleeping pills because I was not able to sleep due to the pain.
I had multiple scans and had to see several doctors as they were afraid it would never completely heal. At the end they told me that it will take at least one year to get to normal. I was very frustrated but didn't give up. This was in April. I went through many therapies and was feeling much better. My doctor told me a couple of weeks ago he was surprised that it was healing so well. I've seen his this week too and he was not that happy anymore. It hurts again and I have to slow down..
Actually I was left handed but I was forced to do everything with my right hand when I was a child. At that time it was not 'normal' to be left handed. I think it should not be that difficult for me to type with the left hand but I'll see how it goes. When I couldn't do anything with my right hand a few months ago I even learned to chop the onion with my left :D I couldn't give up cooking!! :D

I was looking up some of the open source projects, and I don't see a really workable software yet. I did find Dragon naturally speaking, but there are many versions and prices...seems like this is the consumer and business product that has been around the longest.

Also be careful with fast reply, replies over 12 comments deep aren't sending!
No kidding! I see sometimes they sit in a queue and you have to re-send them.
You'll have to enlarge this, but look at the top right, beside the green play button. If there's a number where mine is zero, that means those haven't sent yet. click on it and it will give you a spot to re-send.
Oh! I hadn't noticed this, tha k you I didn't really read the manual....
