Hi Steemians. I was watching a programme about animals earlier today and it has triggered my curiosity about endangered species. I went on the WWF (World Wildlife) website and I've discovered on the website that there are 20 species that are critically endangered; 26 endangered; and 21 vulnerable. Thus, I've randomly picked one from the list of critically endangered animals and I've done a bit of research about it which you can read below.
The northern Gulf of California serves as a natural habitat to only approximately 30 vaquitas. Vaquita, Phocoena sinus, the smallest placental marine mammal is on the verge of extinction. The illegal fishing method called gillnetting is the culprit.
Various governments and organisations have been working together to protect the vaquita by implementing vaquita-safe fishing technologies and by developing ‘a long-term strategy for conservation of the species’.
