I cannot believe this topic is back. It has been proven many times that encryption backdoors cause more trouble than its worth. Plus, weakening encryption just puts companies that have to adhere to these standards at a major disadvantage in the marketplace. Encryption is here to stay. There is no putting that genie back in the bottle.
Its interesting to see this play out in the video game console market. Each time they release a new console with a layer of tough encryption to protect profits, it eventually gets circumvented. There is no way to truly secure anything that has a master key...
