3Speak Encoder Network Weekly Activity Report #2

Week 2

Hello, everyone.

3Speak.tv continues to rely on a decentralized network of community-operated encoder nodes. These nodes are responsible for processing video uploads, transcoding content into multiple resolutions, and ensuring reliable availability across the 3Speak ecosystem.

This weekly report provides transparency into encoder activity and workload distribution. Its purpose is to recognize the contributions of node operators and to distribute rewards proportionally based on actual encoding output. This approach encourages decentralization, reliability, and long-term sustainability of the video infrastructure on Hive.

The data below is sourced from monitor.3speak.tv and reflects encoder activity for Week 2.

These accounts will be set as the beneficiaries of this post.

Notes

  • All encoder nodes reported a 100% success rate for Week 2.
  • Job distribution reflects current capacity and availability of each operator.
  • Lower activity does not indicate underperformance; workloads may vary based on scheduling, capacity, or maintenance windows.

Good job, everyone! 💪 🍻

I hope my small contribution will help the stability of the 3Speak encoding!

Felt great just to help the encoding, simply because the PC has to be running anyhow.

Welcome to the ENCODING :D YouTube is so screwed!

Hahahah... Watch out, YT, 3Speak encoders are after you! 😂 You are going down! 🤣

They don't know we are coming... 😎

Sir, please help me. What kind of posts can I make on 3Speak? I would be happy to receive your guidelines as a newbie.

The same as on Peakd, just video content... Don't spam, share your original stuff... Check out what others are sharing... ;)

Well done on the amount of encodings!
I'm just wondering if the direction this is going is towards the centralised approach, with one entity doing over half of the throughput.

Just a question, not a fact.
Fact is, it does seem to be as explained in the post.

In fact, you can join and set up your own; the requirements aren't high and the installation is quite simple. Anyone is welcome to do it.

This time I did more than half, because everyone had different problems this week.

But Sagar is back and ph1102 joined the group.

For me, it's more centralized that more than half of the Hive witnesses are on Privex. We'll have to see what happens if one fails tomorrow.

I was thinking it could potentially turn into a 'Hive-like state', tipping towards centralized entities. But as mentioned, facts are that this is more decentralized.. was just a little "worried" about more than half being from one entity, despite it being 3 accounts.

I'm curious to know if you happen to know where I can find some good info on setting up my own. It would probably be in the bottom as I probably can't have my laptop turned on constantly 😂

This week was unusual. Sagar lost his servers in a household accident, and the others had problems too. Normally, the workload is more evenly distributed; you can see last week's report. Also, we're all in different locations, so if one goes down, the others take over. The post itself has information on how to create your own node, or you can contact eddiespino. If you're only active half the time, you contribute less, but you're still contributing.

Ah so, you are the thorkellnft guy! Nice to meet you mate. That's a lot of kit mate... especially given you are in Canary Islands. Is Internet good up there? (I am expecting to be because its on the way of all the cabling around Africa).

The pleasure is all mine, the internet here is quite good, I have 1gb/s symmetrical, and that's even though I'm not in an area with Smart coverage which, as far as I understand, has up to 10gb/s and only costs a couple of euros more.

yep, similar to here in NZ. Quite good too... shame I am latency wise farther... but I can't do much about it yet... only when satellites help and are not super mega costly.

I foresee in the future having dual links, one for bandwidth things... where I don't care about latency, and then a small bandwidth satellite (probably SpaceX thing) link for under 100ms things across the world. These would be for P2P traffic and or other witnessing stuff that I can route via IPv6 for example.

I might use for broadcasts too with failback to local internet. Obviously these things are not an easy cost decision, with current times and crypto prices... but we will see.

I also want to do many things, but for the moment everything is on hold. I'm just settling into the islands, and as you say, the prices don't help much; in fact, I've taken advantage of them to buy a little.

Muchas gracias por tus palabras y apoyo! 🙏
