RE: Elon Musk: Self-Driving Cars Will Be Here In ~2 Years

in #elonmusk8 years ago

The implications of this are massive. There will be much les need to own a car when cars are fully automated. You could just pay for access to a car. The car that you use to get you to work could then go and take other people places during the day and a car, possibly but probably not that one would take you home at the end of the day. There will be much less of an auto industry of all types: Manufacturing, Repair, Insurance, ect. If fact, by about 2025 it will most likely be illegal to manually operate a motor vehicle or at least extremely cost prohibitive since the insurance will be so expensive. Also, many jobs will disappear, taxi drivers, truck drivers, traffic police, auto repair, auto insurance worker and so on. This is one aspect of massive changes that are going to occur in society as AI displaces various forms of work.

Good points. I agree, and am very much looking forward to that world.

How will the government pad their budgets without writing tickets?
