** PUBLIC LIBRARY**
This is library established by local,state or national government, it is funded wholly from public funds. The library caters for every citizen in the community: old or young,literate or non-literate. Public library is an indispensable part of the community as a promoter of literacy,through provision of information materials,organisation of workshops, exhibition etc for the citizens. It is also called the people's university.

Functions

• It produce and enlightened citizen through the provision of education and information materials.
• It provide information needs of the community
• It provides opportunity for all citizens to educate themselves.
• To assist people in using their leisure hour wisely
• It provides materials for recreational readings

SPECIAL LIBRARY

This is established to meet the specialized information needs of their founding institution or organization. Their collections include books, reports letters,journals,pamphlet, government publication and audio visual materials. The libraries are special because they also serve a set of professional such as bankers,researchers,theologians and lawyers

This is a library that operate as Nursery and Primary School,secondary schools,teacher's colleges and technical colleges. The collection is primarily meant for young people. Their objective is to implement, enrich and support the educational programmes of the school such as development of reading skills,literacy,flair in the use of books and choice of reading materials.

Functions
It is established to;

• Support teaching and learning within the school
• Inculcate in children reading habit at an early age
• Provides recreational materials for pleasure reading
• Develop in pupils a good reading and study skills
  Supply creative materials
