I have been lost in Israel, after dark within large tall buildings. I couldn't read any street signs as all were Hebrew and didn't have a clue which way was north, south, east or west. I just kept driving until did recognize something. Yeah I was lost but bought and carried a pocket compass from then on. This sun method wouldn't help. I was fine during the day because of the sun. Night was the problem with no sun direction not many street lights but couldn't read the Hebrew anyway.
this method works 24/7 and doesnt need the sun constant just once per 4 days. the rest relies on your knowledge of hourly tracking and knowledge of how things work and how to track time. but as i said thats another class. knowledge is the key and with the right knowledge never an excuse to be lost anywhere.
