How Failure can Help you be more successful on Steemit and in your daily life

in #education7 years ago (edited)

We all are used to seeing successful people -examples presidents, film actors, great sportsmen/women , movie stars , entrepreneurs etc . However, have we ever asked ourselves if life was always rosy for all these people? The reality, however, is that if you personally know most of these people you will know that they failed many times -however what made them different from others is that they always come back: Persistence and hard work. Put succinctly, they never quit. One good example is one of the greatest United States President:

Pic Source:

Abraham Lincoln

Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown. Below is Lincoln's road to the White House:
• 1816 His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.
• 1818 His mother died.
• 1831 Failed in business.
• 1832 Ran for state legislature - lost.
• l832 Also lost his job - wanted to go to law school but couldn't get in.
• 1833 Borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.
• 1834 Ran for state legislature again - won.
• 1835 Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.
• 1836 Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
• 1838 Sought to become speaker of the state legislature - defeated.
• 1840 Sought to become elector - defeated.
• 1843 Ran for Congress - lost.
• 1846 Ran for Congress again - this time he won - went to Washington and did a good job.
• 1848 Ran for re-election to Congress - lost.
• 1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state - rejected.
• 1854 Ran for Senate of the United States - lost.
• 1856 Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party's national convention - get less than 100 votes.
• 1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again - again he lost.
• 1860 Elected president of the United States.

In light of the aforementioned points, we should ask ourselves why we easily give up? Why do we focus on successful people and want to be like them without being ourselves? Here are some few points:

Accept and learn from Failure: to succeed in life, you have to accept your failure and learn from it. Be complaisant and not complacent to the issues. If you remove pride, accept that you made a mistake which led to failure, learn from it , then you will be in the position to do better and thus succeed. This relates to character too because failure can build a better character especially if you accept it and change.

Keep steeming to more success: Many people are giving up daily on steemit or their projects because of lack of success- especially when they compare themselves to other people on trending pages or on top projects. My message to you is : accept your failure/mistakes, learn from your failure (read successful people posts or study their strategy and learn from it) , be patience and most importantly, never give up

Now is your turn, do you agree with the article about learing from your failure? send in your comments, resteem in order for others to join and upvote to send in your support.

Most of us need hard work to get success in life while few of them are very much lucky that they touch the peak of success with in a short period of time.

That has always been so in life...however never give up is the key.

Very motivational post! It makes your mind avoid all the bad thoughts in your mind and focus on the bright side!
Think positive and never give up! Cheers!

Wow Lincoln was relentless. He ran for public office so many times and lost and was bed ridden with anxiety. That's crazy?! I like how you relate it to Steem. People think that post once and will make hunreds of dollars. We have to be consistent in our daily quality content and grow our following base to achieve success on this platform. The great City of Rome wasn't built overnight. Thanks for the post.

A very good comment, thanks and more success to you.

Wow this is a good one especially what Lincoln went through before being successful. After reading this, I wonder why we keep on complaining of lack of success here? patience and hardwork is the key...steem power too. Thanks for this motivational post, upped.

thanks man @charles1, this is just the post i needed right now in my life, not necessarily for steemit but my personal business. Thanks again for giving me hope that if i can just be more patient and work harder, it will just turn out fine. Lincoln story was such a lifter.

Thanks Man

Welcome and more success to you...Never give up, just work smarter

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Tomas Edison failed a thousand times before inventing the light bulb, his words about it were: 'It was not a thousand failed attempts, it was an invention of a thousand steps', as you always say we see the success of others and we want to reach the effortlessly, without Realize all that these people did to get where they are. So to persevere for our goals. A lot of success for you

Very good comment, thanks and keep steeming to more success.

Beautiful article and inspiring. You haven't failed yet until you stop trying. To succeed, you must be prepared for setbacks and you must have a never give up attitude. You can make it if you don't give up. Also watch who you associate with. You will then be able to turn your failure into success.
Once again, great article!

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Most of my articles get little attention but yesterday one was noticed by @curie and gained me the upvote. It didnt give me much in terms of $$ but it sure gave me some incentive to do more and be noticed again.

We need to all keep trying and getting better at writing, and those little successes will get better.

Point , I agree with you, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Abraham Lincolin's life story attracted me, from what you have said in this wonderful post about the life of the American president, certainly he set himself a goal and he worked with perseverance for its achievement.
this goal is to win the US Presidential Elections.

according to the law of attraction, thinking about the objectives leads you to work hard to achieve them.

@charles1, I greatly agree with you. As a matter of fact, I posted something related to this topic today.

Just like you've said, we should:

Be complaisant and not complacent to the issues. If you remove pride, accept that you made a mistake which led to failure, learn from it , then you will be in the position to do better and thus succeed.

Many of us in our personal lives, as well as on steemit; we take failure too personal that will end up in fear and complacency. But relating with the story of one of the Heroic figures that ever lived in America, Abraham Lincoin, we would learn that failure is not final. He never allowed the series of failures he experienced to make him give up on his dream, rather he became more resolved and committed to achieving greatness, which he eventually did attain...1860 he was elected as president of the United States.

Thanks for sharing this inspirational post.

Very good point and welcome to steemit. See my older posts for tips on how to succeed here. I wish you success

Alright....thanks.

I thought failure before was a bad thing no one should ever experience in their lives. Guess what, I'm a fool to think even in a second that you can't fail even once. One of the things I learned in life is when failure comes, be ready to learn from it. That lessons we learn every time we fail makes us wiser and stronger. It reminds us how lucky we are to experience the ups and downs of life.

Point!!!I agree

Im grateful for my failures. It got me to work so many different types of positions from cleaning parks, retail, customer service, cashier, and now in a permanent position for a hospital. And now blogging on steemit and manager for my artist. This should motivate and inspire you to change your dreams, passions, and just keep at dreams.

Great, you are indeed an inspiration. I wish you more success

Thank you so much!

Welcome and more success to you

Congratulations on your permanent position

Thank you

Thanks for the motivation. It's actually discouraging being a newbie here. I believe I've not put the best efforts I need to in order to start reaping from this great platform. This has really encouraged me I hope it encourages others as I resteem it.

Keep steeming bro, read my older posts for more tips... more success to you

Alright bro.

Giving Lincoln as an example is motivational, it did give me a little boost to keep fighting for what i want. Unfortunately, Lincoln's story is a 1 in a million story. Most people forget the "luck" factor, one person might work hard every day and do a good job, but if he lacks the luck factor, he will not succeed. He would partially succeed, but not enough to his satisfaction.

Everyone here is trying to share things, trying to learn from each other and teach others. In the process, they want appreciation in return. When we spend hours and hours creating content for the people here and only get 2-3 upvotes on it, it's depressing.

After a while, i even think it's unhealthy to keep going. You really have to do something big to get some attention. This platform is too much like real life, the rich get richer and the poor just watch and dream.

Sorry, but this is the way i think. Yes, Steemit is a place for many possibilities but i think people should stop saying " dont give up, you'll get there" . Because no, without the luck factor you will not get anywhere unless you come with something awesome. But remember, coming with something that awesome could get u rewarded alot more IRL than on steemit ;)

Good point, however there is nothing like luck factor in steemit (see my older posts for tips on how to succeed here) you just have to play it smart here because if you hope for luck, you will be disappointed. I wish you success.

Wow...lovely write up, i think one of the reason why we fail in life at times is for us to be able to appreciate every success that comes our way. No matter how it rains, we will always have a dent sky. Even the bible says tribulation will come but i have conquer the world. So failure is not the end itself, it's just a step to success. Dino melaye never knew anything when he was in school and he always fail but today he's one of the leading senators in Nigeria. NeverSayNever.

Thanks for the post man.

Very good point indeed. Welcome to steemit and see my older posts for more tips on how to e successful here. I wish you success

The pleasure is mine

I definitely think this is something a lot of people overlook. A celebrities life may look perfect on the outside but no one truly knows the struggles they endured. It can be easy to fantasize about these perfect lives but the reality is we all have hardships. Very thought provoking. Looking forward to more :)

Good point indeed, thanks for your comment

This actually inpired me to keep steeming, I just joined and you're right, most of people weren't born on the top, maybe we don't see it at the beggining but if you start from the bottom it doesn't makes impossible to reach the top, only you will make it impossible if you don't try hard enough and put it the efford necesary to accomplish your goals.

Thank you for this post I will resteem it!

Very good point, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Life is not a bed of roses. We all have to make a place for ourselves in this world. We all face hardships in our life owing to many things and our own circumstances. Facing the hardship in journey of life some stop their journey and begin to seek a shortcut while some chose to carry on the journey while some innovative make their own road. Failure is not a thing which should be used as excuse to stop the journey altogether. Steem platform definitely has something to provide those innovative people who don't give up. Nice inspirational post.

Very good point, I agree.

Thank you.

Failure is the stepping stone to success..
I learned Abraham Lincoln's story in class 2 in my moral science class and later on we got to know precisely in my History class during standard 4. His story is a great inspirational story and also KFC restaurant owners story...
Few people here in steemit just go on and for money the moment they mis match their plans they leave and starts to get dishurtened but I feel patience is what we need first few years we should totally work for building a community then we after building a strong then we can upload some good motivational real blogs after which success is guaranteed but people don't understand and they copy each and other person...Really it's one of the best blog till date 100/100 awesome sir ...

Good point indeed...success to you.

Thank you for this awesome article.
I still think I Fail on Steemit and many times I left it for many days or even weeks and then come back to it, Because I love reading online mostly.
I still believe I can do better if I give a post too much time and energy but for the moment I just want to enjoy reading and commenting,,,, sometimes I get paid here for my comments and this will never happen in any of the most famous social media platforms like Facebook, Reddit, Meduim and more.

Good point, see my older posts for more tips- more success to you

You are making a good point @charles1.
A quiter will never be a winner, a lot of successful people out there are there today because they do not allow failure to weigh them down.

That someone fail in a first or second even third attempt does not make you a failure ,what makes you a failure is inability to continue that task.

Thanks for always sharing an inspiring post @charles1

I like your comment. We sometimes give up on good ideas just because we think it's not good enough or we begin to criticize ourselves and it all goes down hill from there. I know people who have struggled so much with their writing and about to quit the whole process, and then one day; boom, success! So it's a learning thing and we have to just go through it. Thanks!

Point, I agree with you.

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Definetely an article for thought, learning from failures is surely one of the biggest benefits in human-being

Good point, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Yeah, I totally agree with this article. Learn from failure and do better. Thanks for sharing.

Don’t read success stories, you will only get a message. Read failure stories, you will get some ideas to get success. ~Abdul Kalam~

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

We fail sometimes but my failing on steemit has led me to work more to improve my votes great post

Point, thanks for your comment and more success to you

If true. The important thing is to persevere and continue working to improve and achieve what we set out to do. I think the most difficult thing is to deal with the feeling of frustration of not seeing all the effort we put into what we do, but we can not let that discourage us.

Point, I agree. I wish you success.

Thank you. 😁

really inspiring article dear. You haven't failed yet until you stop trying. To succeed, you must be prepared for setbacks and you must have a never give up attitude. You can make it if you don't give up. Also watch who you associate with. You will then be able to turn your failure into success.

Point, I agree. I wish you success

There is also need for us to be self -discipline when it comes to the aspect of money because from my little findings, people don't know what to do with money even to save some part in the bank. They will eat all and not invest and expect harvest?
People have to change such mindset in this era. Thanks

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

I totally agree with this post.

Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."

Abraham Lincoln, Michael Faraday, Thomas Edison and others; when I look at their past, I'm motivated, I go on doing what I do.

Amen to that....I agree and wish you more success

I liked your valuable suggestions to face the problems, accept the failure and learn with it, and emerge as a winner.
Resteemed your nice post.

Very good point indeed, thanks for your comment and more success to you

Common reply to everyone but it's okay. Thanks.

A show of appreciation to good cmments

Road to greatness is always very narrow.....failure gives us times to be master of the game. Focus, consistence and persistence always win the race

Point!!! I agree

Great post, never giving up is the key. Successful people are the ones who do. Just keep hustling and don't stop! :)

Amen to that

It's also a matter of being more positive toward yourself. I think writer are very self critical and do compare themselves to others, but as you clearly pointed out in your article, perseverance is a key aspect for success. Really appreciate your post, thank you!

Welcome and more success to you

Whenever we stop making mistakes, we stop learning.

Yeah I almost gave up on it.but felt determined to continue .cuz success doesn't come easy.

Point, see my older posts for tips on how to succeed here

You stop at Lincoln's election to the Presidency.... but Lincoln went through huge failures in his presidency, before, during, and after the war. Lincoln almost lost it all and if he had, the country would look very different than it does today. Good outlook on failure and the path to success. Many can use it here on Steem.

Good point, thanks for your comment

Great post. Recently, I’ve been listening to an audio about many successful people. Yes, the key is persistence, never giving up. Most successful people will tell you that they have so-called failed many times before elevating to the top. Being obsessed with the desire and never given up will get you there.

Correct, I agree with you. Never give up

Very relatable, sir. The people invited me on here aren't active now because they were disappointed that people didn't upvote their post. I can understand their action for being inactive here though, I won't do the same even I am alone on this platform. I have high hopes and I have been hoping many times in my life. Hahaha

Welcome and I wish you more success. See my older posts for more tips.

Thank you @charles1! I will definitely read your older posts. :-)

I believe your write up will boost the morale of many steemians that are about to give up. Keep it up with your creative posts. Thumb up.

Thanks for your comment and keep steeming to more success

Edison's 10,000 attempts to create a light bulb or Dyson's 5,126 attempts to invent a bagless vacuum cleaner.
We’re so focused on not failing that we don’t aim for success, settling instead for a life of mediocrity. When we do make missteps, we gloss over them, selectively editing out the miscalculations or mistakes in our life’s résumé. “Failure is not an option,”

I agree with your comment indeed....thanks a lot

@charles1........ Excellent post. I agree with you.from this moment need power thinking. Your message for success is just awesome.it helps me much.i always think myself as a student of steemit. thanks a lot for sharing this article.
