After about 3 month of ravaging through different countries and continents corona virus has finally made its way to Africa. within the past 2 to 3 weeks lots of Africa countries have recorded their first cases and rising and most of these were known to be imported either by foreigners or locals who traveled to infected places. The worry however is that Africa as a continent may not be so much prepared as its European and western counterparts and even these more advanced nations are overwhelmed by the rate at which the deadly virus is killing and infecting others overwhelming their health sectors and health workers. Luckily for Africans they have a lot to learn from the mistakes committed of these countries such as Italy, Uk and US who are currently experiencing some of the greatest hits since this pandemic began. Whiles some presidents such are imposing strict measures such as Country lockdown in South Africa and Rwanda some have also decided just tackle the situation by routine surveillance and quarantine.
The trend is there for all to see, Italy was lackadaisical in arresting the virus and it has cost so dearly but some these countries are still not seeing how deadly and how easily things can go so wrong if they don't act fast. In Ghana, we were lucky enough to close our boarders early when the cases started rising rapidly, and out 1030 passengers mandatorily quarantined and tested 78 has so far tested positive which means if this had not been done we could have had serious community spread ongoing by now. Despite the fact that the medical association is asking for a lockdown experts also express concerns about the economy and the fact that the country is not prepared for such an event which could result in the death of many from hunger and poverty and not even the virus.
The countries who are taking drastic measures must however be applauded, today Ghana fumigates all the markets in its second largest capital city, Kumasi. One of the major challenges in combating this virus world wide has been the inadequacy of PPE and test kits and whiles we are experiencing a global panic and fear for lives as many perish experts claim that the worse is yet to come. I guess the headache for most african countries would be that who would come to their AID when things go haywire? Because where help would have been expected from has to battle for their own survival. Trump is Overwhelmed, Prince Charles has been affected, some prominent actors and footballers, billionaires and millionaires alike are getting infected so what is to say the poor will survive this?
We await to see how things go, the rush for a cure is still ongoing but how will the world economy be after this war has ended? The forex market keeps dwindling and collapsing, cryptocurrency is the new ish, most countries are accepting practices which on a normal day would not have done so. Is the world coming to an end? or this is yet another trial to test the faith and wisdom of mankind? No where is safe, lets keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. God Save Africa.
