Lack of sleep has a similar effect as alcohol. Read this some years ago and your article reminded me of it. Just looked it up:
«Reaction times in a series of tests were up to 50 per cent slower in people deprived of sleep compared with the same people being given increasing doses of alcohol. The surprise was that only moderate sleep deprivation had such a marked effect.»
