RE: Wildcrafting 101

Love the old man's beard! Still have a bit dried up in my pocket right now that I was wearing in my beard a while back, actually.

Thanks for the thorough and well written introduction to wildcrafting, and for taking us along on your adventure via photographs. For those of us who know just enough to be dangerous, the reminders on not taking too much and not getting poisoned were much appreciated.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, I might eat a compound berry or sea vegetable that I'm not 100% sure about :)

Hehe, a piece in the beard for good measure eh? Love it. Poisoning sucks! But with cacti fruit and sea weed (more accurately algae) you’ve got a green light cause they’re all edible. By compound are you referring to those is the Ruby’s family (cloudberry, blackberry, thimbleberry etc)? Thanks for checking it out.

Oh, good to know that cacti fruit are also generally not dangerous.

And yes, I didn't know it was called the Ruby's family, but those would mostly be blackberry, thimbleberry (my fav!), and salmonberry (related to cloudberry, it seems) out here. Compound meaning the berry is formed from many smaller parts.

aah that was a typo- Rubus... you're so lucky to have thimbleberry near you!!, salmonberry and cloudberry !! ahh!

Yes, thimbleberries are a blessing for sure!
