I've made it a top priority to just sit and do nothing for 30 minute every day. That's right: just sit on a chair, preferably somewhere with a good view, and just do nothing.
Being constantly stimulated throughout the day leads to all sort of unpleasant mental conditions. It's important to just let the body/mind go into neutral so it can rest and gather energy.
Great comment! I fully agree with your point of view.
It's important to let go and simply breath. We've forgotton how to relax actually. Life is running fast, and we feel a constant need to deliver. But sometimes the only thing we really need to do is: not doing anything at all.
I couldn't agree more!
When I think back to who my professional role models are, and who I try to emulate in my current position, a few come to mind. But one in particular stands out and distraction, cell phones, etc is the #1 reason why. The first one on one meeting I had with him I realized afterwards, he NEVER checked his phone, glanced at his email etc while we met. He gave me 100% of his attention. Sounds simple enough, but the reality is that never happens. So now I use it in my every day practice at work and not only am I more productive, but I've built stronger teams due to the energy and focus I'm able to put into my time with my direct reports.
One of those reports is struggling in a big way with time management. We have a meeting next week and this will be my next suggestion to her. Airplane mode, completely off, whatever it is you need to stop the "quick" glances, but stop. Although it feels like it's just a second or two to read a social media comment or notification, the distraction continues much longer. A few seconds longer to tell somebody about it, a minute or two to gather yourself and get back to what you were working on before it. Another second or two later when you remember the comment, etc. It carries on and extends to many loss of useful hours in a day; whether personal or professional.
It's a great tool but it need to be managed and expectations for ourselves set.
What an extraordinarily great comment! Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences and recommendations with us. Really interesting!
After publishing the article yesterday, I watched some more videos from Sam Ovens and got very inspired. Sometimes the little changes make a huge difference and have a great impact on your doings - both in business and private life. I don't have and don'T like New Year's resolutions, but focusing more on what's important may be a brilliant strategy for my 2018 :-)
Seems that I hadn't stumbled upon your blog yet in the past. Now you've got a new follower :-) Happy Happy New Year!
haha thats great I never noticed that you can't see if anyone is off or online. and also about getting replies. this would be so annoying if I would get a message every time.
and its so true with the apps I don't have many of them, but still too many.
Iยดm pretty sure that I know one of your apps! magic seaweed! ๐ค
every single word you wrote in this article is a million dollar advice. Only six apps on the phone can do all the works we need. Focusing is an art which is really hard to achieve but you have made all the points very clear here.
I fully agree! That's why I was tempted to reply to Roeland in that way :-)
Well it's a great place to spend time. Also on Steemit you can turn time into money very quickly, so it's also a very wise way of being present. Yet, I often notice that I get distracted in a way that is extreme. Actually I don't like New Year's resolutions very much, but staying more focused may be the perfect plan for my 2018...:-)
My wishes for you are not limited to just the next year.
Have a fun-filled, smashing, rocking and happening New Years 2018.Upvote and resteem done done.
Your points are heavily emphasized by my mentors over at Wealthy Affiliate. Focus is my #1 area that needs improvement. Something to push for in 2018. And I agree as I type this on my cellphone, it's the one to watch out for. :)

Playing Candy Crash on his mobile phone was fun...#lol
Just do not get too much focus 'cause time, money and success are only delusions of the ego self, enjoying the present moment as it is, is a divine gift.
Have you noticed?
The sun does not chose for who it's going to shine, it's undoubtedly equal.
My end of the year sharing wisdom with you.
Best wishes for 2018!
In the #video, the commenter explains he puts his cell phone on 'Airplane mode' and Then SETS it into a drawer -- I can see that's a good idea, helps one to FOCUS better & ignore the distractions.
ALSO:
Thought his tip/idea to HAVE the SAME Sets of SHOES (same type & brand) was an excellent notion !
In my life, I still have to cook [when You're out in the country or in a small town you can't always hire help ].
Oh well โฆโฆ Still, I can invoke some of his suggestions
To the Author : Thank u for including the #video [think it'll HELP some of the Readers here on #STEEMIT ]
Thank you for those great words :) but there is something that I miss in your post. How do you think about our social life that is distracted by our mobile for example? Maybe an idea for a new post? :D Wish you the best for 2018 and continue to do great work !

I thought this was great, apps and social media definitely take a ton of peoples times up and if you do nothing about it it can suck a lot of your time up๐
This post just gave me an idea of a suggestion to steemit - "article starring or pinning" cuz i would love to read it all over again.
I've read or heard somwhere that FOCUS means follow one course until success, this is indeed true.
We live in a world where information is flying all around from left, right and center. To be a successful person it is our duty to filter what's incoming and pay keen attention to what we need in our current path!
Thanks for this post @surfermarly
So true, in our busy live's, its so easy to get distracted by o many different things. We are bombarded daily with so much information, we have to be selective to focus on the most important. Great info :)
starving the technical distractions is an easy routine for me - however the biggest distraction here are the kids... I guess starving them would not be such a good idea ;-) just kidding! Great post and I really enjoyed the reading - and started dreaming about the day when I will have wider time-windows again to be really focused on one thing :-) Herzliche Grรผรe aus dem Siebengebirge
Wow, steemit just wont stop leaving me in awe. This is one of the most inspiring stuff i have read on steemit. Every day i keep coming across amazing stories and articles. Sam Oven is a great inspiration and thanks for sharing this.

Oh I wish! Sam Ovens is making 10 million bucks a year with these kind of recommendations. There's still a long way to go, haha!
Thanks for your positive feedback, it's much appreciated!
Have a great start into 2018!

Wow, you're ahead of time - lol! In Spain it's still 31th of December 2017. Unless you're talking about a different planet than planet Earth...
I've noticed many accounts of whom I have decided are not from planet Earth!
Happy new year!
Haha, Happy New Year Asher!
They may spam our blogs, but they can't steal our sense of humor :-)

I am honest I not like Chatrooms too.
And I think the computer problems come how we use it. Can you say What is Candy Crash ??? :))))
And Happy New Year :))
Candy Crush is a massively time-consuming 'puzzle' game found on many platforms.
ok :))) I was just curious.

I find many distractions that come from the phone are 'social' distractions - text / Facebook / local news updates.
I thought this was great, apps and social media definitely take a ton of peoples times up and if you do nothing about it it can suck a lot of your time up๐
I have to disconnect other inputs (apart from music) when writing content. Closing all but the browser tabs you are using has helped me too!
I hoped the champers helped welcome the new year in in Style!
(My steemvoter is skipping you a lot at the moment, sorry!)
